Selling Standard: What to Keep for Modern?

Modern forum

So I'm all out on Modern now! Currently I have some Standard staples I'd like to trade for good Modern cards. But what might I keep that are realistic in Modern? Or have some potential?

I do not have planeswalkers, however. Do have all dual lands, manlands (except Shambling Vent) and widely used cards like Sylvan Advocate, Tireless Tracker, Oath of Nissa and the like.

Thanks!

You have three choices to be honest.

  1. Good luck trading standard for modern unless you trade heavily into someones favor.

  2. Sell your standard to a store for credit and use that to buy modern.

  3. Use PucaTrade and trade standard and attempt to turn it into modern.

I would suggest the 2nd and hope you can get a decent deal.

I would hold onto any Kolaghan's Commands, Atarka's Commands, one or two Dromoka's Commands, any Khan's fetches, and 2-3 of each man land. The rest is pretty much not playable, or fringe to the point that it shouldn't be too expensive to pick back up later (Prized Amalgam, Insolent Neonate for dredge. Oath of Nissa for Mono Green Devotion).

DrFunk27 Ok. Yeah, I didn't think by any means the trades would be equal card for card. I was asking along the lines of saving myself the trouble of trading Standard cards only to try to get them back. I do play online and many Modern staples are quite less than paper. As where Sylvan Advocate is actually more online for example.

Bewmz Ok, that's sort of what I was picking up. Wow, Standard is pretty sad.

eBay is another option. I recently had great success liquidating ~$450 in value (TCG mid) and got a little under $400 back. Even after the 10% PayPal cut I got way better return than I would have at a shop, even if they give a bonus for credit over cash.

I avoided PucaTrade because I didn't want to be one of hundreds of people all looking for Goyf with plenty of points to spare... but that's somewhat specific.

You can often find trades on this site where people will trade the value of the card regardless of format. Try here first and foremost, certainly.

HairyManBack I was just providing options for you if you're looking to get rid of standard for modern, that's what your post sounded like.

As for what you should keep for potential modern use, Bewmz pretty much hit all of them.

Some Tooth and Nail variants use Oath of Nissa. I don't think it will be effective enough for it to be value to keep it, but if that's a modern deck you were interested in, it can be played there.

I also missed Prairie Stream and Cinder Glade (fringe play in U/W control and R/G Titan Scapeshift respectively). There's also some argument for Arlinn Kord  Flip as a one or two of in some Jund lists, it really boils down to what it is that you want to play.

Really, the most cost effective deck for you to get into with standard pieces is Eldrazitron.

Ok, from your guys helpful comments and what I've been seeing competitively I got a good handle on it. Probably will trade some stuff I need later but it looks like the questions and research will pay off.

Thank you guys much!
