Is Green tron still the best?

Modern forum

Hello, I would like to talk about modern tron, and the different variants of it. I love mono blue tron, and it is a deck I have been playing for almost a year now, I love the deck almost as much as I love Bloodbraid Elf do you guys think with all the tron hate coming out that blue and other tron variants will surpass that of green tron? With Blood Moon Alpine Moon and Damping Sphere all out how will this affect all tron players? I would also love to know if you think Emrakul, the Promised End has a spot in blue tron I have been testing with Elder Deep-Fiend and have been enjoying the card other than that, if you want I would be more than happy to hear why you think tron is good right now, or if you think that green tron will get pushed out!

I've always preferred Blue Tron, but it is a tad harder to play. If you're expecting hate cards, it's the better choice in my opinion, as it's less reliant on assembling Tron to participate in the game (on the anecdotal side, I've laughed off enough Blood Moons and Damping Spheres to be confident of its legs in the meta going forward). If you're interested, here's an example list.

I actually have 3 Damping Sphere in my sideboard for the green tron matchup because it effects them so much more than us, and also I love your list! I think blue tron may be able to beat green tron, but I was wanting a variety of comments especially from those who play green tron.

U tron is the worse version of the deck and tron simply doesnt care about this hate. there has been hate forever and tron can easily play 4 claims to combat that

Blue Tron feels favored in the Tron mirror to me. Mindslavering a green Tron player results in some pretty vicious blowouts, and you can play stuff like Spreading Seas to control them postboard.

I understand that green tron could still very well be the best, but against combo and control decks blue tron really shines, I was just wondering if this could push blue tron over the top especially with the new karn

This is likely the most favorable meta Mono Green Tron has ever seen. I don't expect Alpine Moon to have much more of an impact on the deck than Damping Sphere did, which was minimal. Mono U has gotten a significant upgrade in Karn, Scion of Urza which gives it an additional card advantage engine while supplying relevant pressure and a wincon outside of Slaver lock. U Tron is on the upswing and it's definitely a solid competitive choice at present. That said, I think U Tron wouldn't be at parity or a superior choice to Mono G unless something unlikely happens like an Ancient Stirrings ban.

Thank you for that and I totally understand that these hate cards might not be enough, I'm just happy my deck is seeing some love lol. And green tron has always seemed good to me, and I agree stirrings getting banned might be the only thing to help u tron get ahead of it. I just really hope that we start seeing u tron more!

G tron is defenitely better against control though. Ot is more consistent and its threats are better.

U tron is also defenitely not favored in the mirror. Its pretty much a control deck and tron eats those decks alive

I have always had excellent control matches and I have been doing well in the tron matchups as well, humans is the biggest thing that I seem to struggle against, we are usually great against big mana decks, the only card I have really had trouble dealing with out of green or gb tron has been Worldbreaker

I never denied that u tron has good control MUs but g tron just slays those decks and u tron is also a control deck

Yea I understand that, I just think it is a little closer especially after sideboarding, but green tron definitely has a good control matchup
