Interesting and fun legendaries for Goryo's Vengeance

The obvious is Griselbrand, but I want crazy and powerful things like Narset, Enlightened Master and Nicol Bolas. Has anybody played Vengeance, and if so, with what creature?

well there is Borborygmos Enraged, but that does already see some play.

So you can run some form of Kiki Jiki combo, you can run Jin-Gitaxis, I personally have a list that runs both...I also have a super sweet deck that runs Godo and Elbrus, the binding blade. But my baby is a brew I have been working on and evolving for many years:

sirbar yeah, he's played in Grishoalbrand. I'm looking for other things because I think Griselbrand is going to be banned when the deck becomes more prominent

Sk0oMa I'll take a look at that later. I had a Narset idea with a bunch of cards like World at War to keep letting her attack and then throw in a bunch of game-ending spells like Sorin's Vengeance and Cruel Ultimatum

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is legendary and Goryo's Vengeance is instant so you can reanimate in response to the shuffle trigger.

i think that if they ban something from Grishoalbrand it would be the Goryo's Vengeance to take away it's fast kill. They want slower decks, and banning him would be a shame. Like how they banned Summer Bloom and not Primeval Titan from amulet bloom so that the deck would slow a little. Same for Eye of Ugin being banned and not the Eldrazi Temple.

I would actually anticipate Nourishing Shoal getting banned. Without that it's just any old glass cannon. WotC doesn't get along with exploitable free spells. I played the deck for almost a year and that was definitely the innovation that brought it to a competitive level.

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip also has some super sexy interactions with Goryo's Vengeance.

i had an interesting deck that was braids. the only problem with it was that it needed to be full on braids. basically get braids after the exile would trigger on their turn. then u get emrakul and win.

According to MTGTOP8, Grishoalbrand and all similar decks accounted for only 2% of the meta in Live Tournaments over the last 2 months (meaning tournaments you should actually care about).

At least half of these were MTGO events.

They aren't banning or nerfing this deck anywhere in the near future. Put your tin foil hats away.

A guy plays Grishoalbrand every week at my LGS and he pretty much wins T3 all the time. Hardest matchups are when he faces UW control with lots of permission.

Even when I side in all the GY hate I have I can't seem to beat this deck. You NEED to have a T1 Leyline of the Void or Grafdigger's Cage otherwise you don't stand a chance. Path and RIP aren't good enough if they have a Griselbrand in play.

Turn 3 win consistency and next to zero meta presence doesn't constitute banning anything.

Affinity and Infect are more due for a ban under those regards.

Relic of Progenitus also does wonders.

Oh don't get me wrong, the deck is fine right now. Not getting banned in the foreseeable future. I am sure, however, it will eventually be. All it needs is one good card for it to be printed to push it over the edge, at which point it will be op. Right now it's too inconsistent/fragile by far to be even tier 2. But I cashed out of the deck because it's only a matter of time before they print the card that accidentally cracks it wide open.

I really hope with there no longer being a modern PT that wizards calms down with bannings and this whole "it's not if it's when" attitude toward modern bannings can stop. What I really want is a non-rotating format where people can play the deck they want, not the deck that they think is strong enough to win but weak enough that bannings won't hit it.

The day that they decide Glasscannon Griselbrand needs a banning is the day I am done with modern forever. There are so many cards that interrupt the combo that there is no reason for anyone to ever have a hard time interacting unless they seriously have nothing to interact in their deck at all.

TMBRLZ thanks for opening my eyes to the statistics. I can stop being dumb and buy the deck now. I'll take a look at yours to see how you did it

Jay I can see the benefit of it, but the problem is that Vengenace exiles it so I'd only be able to get it back once before having to look for another creature. But now that gives me an idea...

frusciante7 Ghost Council looks fun in this kind of deck, I'll consider it

Thanks to everyone who commented

Yeh the real power of Obzedat is he makes a 4 hp difference just by entering the bf and you can puts its own exile trigger on the stack before Vengeance's one. So he'll keep bouncing again and again. 5/5 haste with 2 life drain every turn ain't that bad, especially on T2 :)
