Elves: Elvish clancaller

Modern forum

I am curious to know what the community thinks about Elvish Clancaller in the Modern format.

Is this an auto-include full playset for elf tribal? Or be like Imperious Perfect in terms of just because it's a Lord it's ability not vidicate being a full playset, but still playable/welcome.

What do you think Elvish Clancaller would replace/or not be good enough to replace in the 2CMC slot in your Elf deck?

I don't think the deck needs it personally the deck has enough other two drops and other lords

I think I agree shadow63. Mono Green Elves/devotion definitely have a new option to consider for sure but I think the Lord perk is a pretty crowded feild despite being cheaper. Other Lord's give other desirable perks such as forestwalk, token generation or crazy Mana acceleration... Where Elvish Clancaller's Mana ability seems like it wouldn't be used likely.

I honestly think that other 2CMC Elves would be more desirable just for offering more utility or combo potential such as Elvish Visionary, Fauna Shaman or Devoted Druid... Or even deck thinning with Sylvan Ranger.

I don't think it fits into the current version of Modern Elves. There are so many good cards in that deck, so I don't see Clancaller displacing anything. It might enable a more beatdown-focused version of Elves that focuses less on ramp and more on making your guys huge, though.

My gripe is there's just better stuff to be doing, like chording for Ezuri, Renegade Leader or Craterhoof Behemoth. +1/+1 doesn't really mean much unless you can stack them fast and early like merfolk

I've experimented with the Clancaller in my GB list. I started at -4 Visionary +4 Clancaller. I'm currently trying -2 Visionary -1 Nettle -1 Stampede +4 Clancaller. Moving your 2 drops up to 10 gives you more plays on turns where your dork gets bolted turn 1. I find the deck goldfishes on T3 more frequently. Below is my deck for reference. Feel free to tear it apart. I'm a new elf player so don't let my results scare you. If you are familiar with the streamer Jeff Hoogland he has streamed a few versions of elves in the past month and he seems pretty please with the new Lord in builds similar to mine.

I stand corrected: looks like some players do prefer Clancaller over Visionary. List.

Yeah, I'm surprised too, but the results are pretty clear. I guess Elves did need another Lord after all...

Now the question is (and some smart guy will probably have an answer) can elves beat eggs/kci at the next PT?
