Degenerate Targets for GPG

Modern forum

I have a crazy idea for using cards like Faithless Looting and friends to find God-Pharaoh's Gift, while stocking the graveyard with goodies. I need to find the most despicable targets for modern that will get a chair hurled in my general direction.

the card you are looking for is Griselbrand and it already has a deck (grishoalhoard) which combos off far earlier than God-Pharaoh's Gift would. I might look that deck up for inspiration if you're committed to brewing a god pharaoh deck tho.

I thought about something like this earlier, and I had a few ideas:

Bomat Courier: A friend of God-Pharaoh's Gift from old standard seems like it would still be ok in modern.

Insolent Neonate: Not only stocks the graveyard in the early game, but comes back as a 4/4 Menace.

Stinkweed Imp: Stocks the graveyard with Dredge, then reanimates as a 4/4 Flying, Deathtouch.

Vector Asp: the option to give it infect for the alternate win is worth consideration. The threat of 4 poison counters can be serious. Otherwise, it can beat down like normal.

Plaxcaster Frogling: comes back as a 7/7 you can pay 2 to shroud itself or other critters.

Sekki, Seasons' Guide: Due to the wording on his ability, preventing damage and making tokens isn't dependent on there being any +1/+1 counters on him. So, he comes back as a 12/12 that shrinks down to an indestructible 4/4 that creates tokens instead of taking damage.

Clockwork Beetle: Can slow down aggressive decks in the early game by sitting on the battlefield as a blocker, then come back as a 6/6, if you don't have any better targets to Eternalize.

Ochran Assassin is basically a one sided wrath with GPG.

There is Cold-Eyed Selkie as well. But that might be too slow.

Infect creatures are definitely something that work well, lots of the more played ones are cmc 3 or less with 3 or less attack, and Spellskite as a 4/4 could be interesting too.

The problem I have with using Infect creatures, is that it really limits your options for what creatures you can use, since they all need to be infect.

Sure, you could GPG a Blighted Agent to make it a 4/4 unblockable. That would be sweet, but not really much more effective than a Giant Growth.

Another thought: Noble Hierarch could make a good target for GPG. Not really degenerate, but better than most.

Stitcher's Supplier would be nice to fill the graveyard.

Which colors to you prefer for your deck?

Mirran Crusader would be fun as a 4/4. Auriok Champion and Soldier of the Pantheon would be the same color.

These three together would be resistent to most removal in the format and would help you keep alive until GPG is online.

I think 7 mana is way too much for modern. Hwoever If your set on this route I'd suggest some eldrazi. A 4/4 Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger is still scary even something like Pathrazer of Ulamog is good. Some other options are Nimble Obstructionist as you can stop a fetch land with it and draw a card with its cue effect then it can come back as a 4/4 flyer Voice of Resurgence seems pretty nasty in the deck. Theres also Hour of Eternity

shadow63 I wouldn’t need 7 mana I’d only need 3 with Gate to the Afterlife or four with Refurbish and the rest of the deck being draw/discard plus some aggro

Swiftblade Vindicator works well for similar reasons Mirran Crusader does.
