Could Athreos be Good in Pod?

When reading Athreos, God of Passage 's effect, it seems ideal for a deck centered around sacrificing creatures. Do you think that any Melira pod lists will play this as a 1 or 2 of?

Nope because you will probably never be able to pod it out unless something has gone horribly wrong.

Why can't you Pod it out? I'm not trying to say that he's gonna be the new big thing for Pod, but I think he's worth testing.

Remember that he's a creature in all zones except the battlefield, even when your devotion is not met.

Why would you want this in pod? It actually just doesn't let you combo off... If you sacrifice a kitchen finks your opponent can just send it back to your hand instead of letting you combo... This is actually the worst idea ever

It requires too much for it to be active, not only that but Finks is going to be strictly better in the slot and it's immediately saccable to hit your redcap, ranger or Linvala and it comes back on its own.

xlaleclx It doesnt actually, they are both your triggers, you stack them in the way in which the Finks trigger is first, then when the Atheros triggers it has an invalid target and gets countered. And for what its worth as a heavy modern and legacy player, I think its worth it as a 1 of in Melira Pod.

I think it's an interesting possibility. It does work due to you being able to stack the triggers the way you want. Overall though, I'm just not sure what he actually does for pod that's extra special.

If you are playing melira pod he actually breaks your combo.. But other than that he seems pretty good..

Why do people not know how to stack triggers?

I've already tested him in my Pod deck against my friend's Gifts Control deck. He's better than you'd expect (at least in this matchup he was fine) but he does require creatures on the board to be useful. In Pod, that isn't hard to do.

I was thinking this myself tbh, I was just about to post this exact thread...

ChiefBell, you're so right, you definitely can combo off regardless if you know how to stack it.

I think that he'd be great in pod, just need to test him now. Remember guys, that the point of him isn't to meet his devotion.

I feel like pod rarely wins by incremental damage so he wouldn't offer much. Without pressure they'll just pay the life . I could see Erebos, God of the Dead in the board for the mirror, though.

Arsene, you'd probably rather play Abrupt Decay to kill their combo, it kills the redcap combo and stops them from scrying most importantly. I think that erebos doesn't do anything, you'll just lose the next turn by the time that he does do something.

nayaftw yeah good call, I'm trying to think of a god that could see play in pod but I don't think there is one. Maybe still erebos in the board for soul sisters, but I'm guessing that's already a really good match for pod. Not sure, I've never played it.

Day 2 of testing with Athreos, God of Passage went even better than the first! He just puts so much pressure on the opponent as you're playing.
