This thread is dedicated entirely to Modern. Feel free to post your thoughts on the meta, ideas for your next decklist, and just chat generally about the format!
Of course, you can always start a new thread if you're interested in discussing one particular aspect of the format; this thread should be used for the quick thoughts and informal questions about the format.
This discussion will be ongoing; you are free to post here as long as you're on topic.

If Storm eats a ban, and I doubt it at this point, Empty the Warrens is the correct nerf.

Empty nerfs the deck enough that it needs to be fully all-in on the Grapeshot plan and dilute itself a bit to deal with Leyline of Sanctity and the like.

Empty does not need to be banned, it's a backup plan out of the sideboard, and can win games with a relatively lower storm count, but also gives decks the chance to beat it still. Worst beats I got was Zealous Persecution out of BW tokens.

kameenook, Urban never said it needed a ban, just that if wotc banned it for whatever reason, it would likely be the correct ban.

Correct. I do think the deck is a little too resilient, but I don't think it's banworthy yet. That said, if they were to hit something, that is the correct card to hit. It's a solid nerf without killing the deck.

TBH I hate Leak, except in UW Control. I think he should have cut Leaks for either some Delvers or Cryptics.

It reminds me of BG/x to be honest. It just wants to answer everything.
I've been having a blast playing this deck Mono Blue ?ggro. Still working out the SB kinks if any one wants to offer any suggestions? The MB is fairly consistent and it typically closes games out fairly quickly.
I knew Throne of the God-Pharaoh would be good from the moment it was spoiled and love playing it in a deck were it just destroys.

One well organized and tested "tier 1" deck you have mastered, that can handle a four mana do nothing card.

you can win if, you can ensure that no equipped creature deals ANY combat damage before you win.
(if your gameplan is not hindered by, 8/7 Snapcaster Mage / gain 4 life each turn / distribute 2 -1/-1 as you choose (until end of turn)
What if its on Adanto Vanguard or Mirran Crusader?

Jitte's also one of those cards that, even if it's not too powerful for the format (which it almost certainly is), its inclusion would still make the format worse. The deck-building costs are so low that a lot of decks would run it, reducing format diversity, and Jitte-mirrors can devolve into the miserable experience of "whoever gets Jitte going first wins", since the -1/-1 ability prevents the other player from ever catching back up.

Its probably not a huge threat to grixis control tbh. But Ive played with and against it plenty in legacy and I do think it would be way too good for modern
To expand on this, I think it would 100% warp the format so that people would be playing stuff like 4 jitte, 4 miran Crusader mainboard, and it would be the best thing you could be doing.

I played against an interesting Jeskai Control deck the other day. Game 1 it used Approach of the Second Sun as a wincon and then used stuff like Opt to dig for it a second time. In game 2 it went for Monastery Mentor as a wincon instead.

If Mentor in Modern is what you want to see, check out this list. It's a Modern take on the classic Legacy midrange deck called Deadguy Ale, and it looks pretty solid. It went 7-1 at a PTQ, so it's at least playable.

Deadguy ale is basically a modern deck anyway so I can see it porting well into modern, cool take on it.

Just played a game against someone running U/R Twin(less). It makes me remember and miss Twin but also become surprised that Death & Taxes hasn't moved to W/R for Kiki Combo & Blood Moon.

Anybody else absolutely hate the new untap?
It's slow, it's clunky, it's a pain in the ass to do simple things like change power and toughness or move cards from graveyard to exile.
They ruined such a good thing. :/

Forge is the only way that allows you to play on Android. But it's AI only to my knowledge.

Considering that there's a Modern Pro Tour less than 2 months away, I'm surprised how dead this forum has become. If you were going to attend the pro tour in Feb., what do you think the meta would look like and which deck would you play?

I don't know, Ponza had been letting me down lately. Seems like I can't get better than 50/50 against thoughtseize/Lily decks. The versions with both shadow and goyf are proving difficult.

New set appears rather weak for modern.

Ok its not snappy, but snappy doesn't have first strike.
Even its fail state, a thalia body is not bad. And when its good it gives red removal it wouldn't have access to - considering the abundance of delve creatures and self mill, it seems to be at least sideboard worthy.
and a great source of removal for 5c humans, like the deck needed any more upgrades... :( )

If we are talking about storm for example, its highly recommended to play around "free" hate like Surgical Extraction or Ravenous Trap.
Those cards are things you can expect in game 2 or 3 if you rely on grave.
Control is a viable strategy, and if you are on control, not beatdown, spells that work for sure, are better than spells that provide tempo.
(Supreme Verdict>Anger of the Gods, Logic Knot>Remand, Path to Exile>Fatal Push... etc.)
