Viable or terrible?

Modern Deck Help forum

Hey all, I've played many modern decks, but never owned one, and I'm hoping to change that shortly.

I really enjoy playing storm and the Jeskai Ascendancy combo, so i was planning on putting together an Ascendancy deck. So I was looking through my folder, and right beside my Ascendancies were my two Thing in the Ice  Flip.

Could TiTi be in Jeskai Ascendancy Combo or is it a bad idea? Also it'd be awesome if someone linked a decent Ascendancy list, I truly don't know where to start

TL;DR is TiTi good in Ascendancy Combo, and post your Ascendancy decklists or others here pls

That was the place I was going to refer too :)

Go check this man, Google's your friend.

I don't think TiTi has any interest for a combo deck. You win by going off or you simply don't win. It's not like Splinter Twin that could still win with Snap / Bolt and Pestermite attacks. Here you really have to get the whole mechanic on because you have no other way out.

Therefore I think you want to save your slots for actual combo pieces or things that help you get to it rather than a creature that COULD get useful if not Path to Exiled / Terminated :)

Or you could run a couple of titi so you have an out if your combo doesnt go off..

Then play a TiTi deck, not a combo deck ;)

I also tend to try and find several wincons when I'm building a deck. But I think sometimes it's just better to go all in with one strategy that's stronger rather than weaken it by finding more 'threats'. That's especially the case for combo decks. Now you can still put TiTi in there if you want to ofc, but I think it'd be counter productive for this very case.

What if its foil? ;) jks

Sweet, one question though: do you guys think the fatestitcher combo or the mana dork combo is better? I cant decide, i havent looked at it properly yet, but im also assuming fatestitcher one is a bit cheaper

I think it depends on how strict of a combo deck you want your Ascendancy deck to be.

All of the Ascendency decks I've seen would REALLY not benefit from having their Fatestitchers and Young Pyromancers bounced, and those creatures themselves are usually bigger than Thing in the Ice  Flip will be.

On the other hand, if you want to deviate from the traditional Jeskai Ascendancy combo decks and go for a more value oriented plan, then Thing in the Ice  Flip will undoubtedly be better.

I think regardless it is fine as a sideboard piece.

The issue I see with the overall idea is that other than combo, Jeskai Ascendancy REALLY likes to play with token producing spells like Monastery Mentor, Young Pyromancer, or Hordeling Outburst from when that was a standard deck. Adding a beater that wraths the board for you is probably too counterproductive for the strategy to work.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

With all the talk about TiTi, what do you guys think would be a deck suited for it? Just curious, as it seems quite good, but im unaware of a deck that it could really fit into. Perhaps another deck itself? Idk

I've been wondering since TiTi got spoiled. I'm pretty sure there's a deck that's meant to be built around the card but I didn't figure it out yet.

URx is the most likely way to go IMO but I might be wrong. I'm mostly thinking about including phyrexian spells to allow let's say a T1/ 7/8 dude. Gut Shot, Gitaxian Probe, Surgical Extraction and Mutagenic Growth are great cards that would trigger TiTi real fast. Couple them with Nivmagus Elemental and Monastery Swiftspear and I THINK you can have a decent thing gong on :)

Answer to your second question : I'd play both mana dorks (helps you to go off faster) AND Fatestitcher (can get you the win out of nowhere) :)

what if you searched Gather and see if there are some other horrors that you can combo out with. That way when Thing in the Ice  Flip flips you end the game that turn.
