Storm hate in mono red?

Modern Deck Help forum

So recently i managed to solidify this decklist and to some degree the sideboard to accompany it.

What answers could you recommend against storm?
(beside the obvios "kill the Goblin Electromancer"?)

I am experimenting with Dragon's Claw, but of course it fails to Echoing Truth...
...if they have boarded it in.

Does anyone have some alternative (hopefully better) ideas?

If you are playing red and you want to absolutely f*CK storm...

Eidolon of the Great Revel

Or if you are in Legacy

Pyrostatic Pillar

resolve one of these and smugly look at them and say "Come get some."

Eidolon of the Great Revel, Relic of Progenitus, Grafdigger's Cage, Tormod's Crypt is a great budget option!

Hope this helps!!

Quick note: Remember when playing against combo decks it is important to have the right mix of disruption AND a good clock. If you have all disruption and no way to kill your opponent in a reasonable time frame then they will have plenty of time to play through your disruption.

The best option is Mindbreak Trap

Mindbreak Trap is good against storm but has limited implications elsewhere. With only 15 sideboard slots you need more flexible answers.

The only card you need to sideboard in mono red against Storm is Grapeshot

How is Grapeshot a good sideboard card against storm PanicButton?

You know it's a sorcery right?

Relic of Progenitus is very good and solid answer to many gravebased decks so it works against Storm too. I'm Storm player myself so i know this. If Storm has enough time it can work through Relic but i think that if you play Mono Red you wont give them that time.

The problem is that my deck is somewhat of a graveyard deck.
In the sense that graveyard hate is able to slow it down - so i would like to not shoot myself in the foot with Relic of Progenitus & Grafdigger's Cage

Dragon's Claw is also pretty nice against burn. Eidolon of the Great Revel is the polar opposite in that matchup.

So probably Tormod's Crypt is the best suggestion yet - but i am somewhat hesitant in using it over Dragon's Claw as i am in no trouble against graveyard decks, but against burn i need help if i draw one of my slower hands.

I am going with Eidolon of the Great Revel as you can usually run this in mainboard.

For sideboard, although technically not red, throw in Mindbreak Trap you will be casting it for 0 if that situation arises.

To a lesser extent, I carry Tormod's Crypt because it can be sacrificed to clear out a graveyard with Past in Flames in it, which shuts down storm, but is also useful against Decks running Snapcaster Mage or Torrential Gearhulk or graveyard strategies.

With 8-12 options to deal with storm in the deck you should be favored to win.

My opening post and title was probably misleading.I am looking for ways in mono red to hate on storm - however this doesn't mean that i am playing the "red deck wins" archetype.

My problem is that because i don't play this archetype, its obvious answers like Eidolon of the Great Revel don't work for the deck, this is why i am here asking for your wisdom.

Xica, do you have a link to the deck you are building so that the suggestions are more relevant?

Also, I actually like using Eidolon of the Great Revel in all situations when working with Red. He is my favorite Red 2 drop vs other red players when going first because he does damage right away. He alone would be a good sideboard for that reason alone and forces your opponent to deal with him.

How about Trinisphere or Thorn of Amethyst or both??

Also since modern is diverse it's impossible to have answers to everything, sometimes you have to accept having lopsided matchups. Focus on bettering your 50/50 matchups and 60/40 matchups rather than trying to pray and hope to beat a 20/80 matchup. Frank Karsten from channel fireball wrote a fantastic article on this concept. I'll try to find it and post it on your page.

Well yeah...
Probably should just stick to those "useful in multiple matchups" Dragon's Claws.

I just always hope that someone has some pet-peave card forgotten in the deepest jankpiles of modern that may surface here...
...after all the worst thing that can happen is that i asked my question in vain.
