Stopping attacks

Is there any particular card that would be good to stop aggressive early game tactics in modern for a U/B control deck? Or really, any sort of aggression. Currently the deck I'm working on is incredibly slow and can easily be destroyed by any creature hitting the board.

Coming from taking turns here which is also a slow deck Exhaustion and Gigadrowse are great options, as is Cryptic Command

Removal spells are pretty good. Fatal Push, Dismember, etc. Depending on your budget, you could go for Damnation or Languish.
