So I've been working on this b/g rock list for a while shown here:

The deck is super sweet so far but there is one slot in the deck I'm not certain of and would like some external input. For this slot I need one stand-alone 2 drop creature and I'm currently filling that space with a Pack Rat. Pack Rat has the ability to go wide to protect planeswalkers, create chump blockers or take over the game. There is enough card draw in the deck to create an army of rats and each copy adds 1b devotion to the board which makes the Gray Merchant of Asphodels more potent. However, this slot could also be filled by Spellskite who makes a good blocker, protects planeswalkers from bolts or decays, shields Phyrexian Obliterator or other creatures from removal, and is great in matches like burn and infect. I'm leaning towards Spellskite being the right choice but would like some discussion on the matter. If anyone has suggestions for another card to fill this one slot I'm all ears!

I would cut Arena and probably the 2 Ghost Quarters for more Twilight Mire and colored land or fetches.

Phyrexian Arena is a great card but I feel like 3 is too many for your deck. Your 3 drop spot is extremely cluttered as is.

Your early game is limited to only control options and not much pressure so I would suggest Tarmogoyfs which will lead you away from the need of devotion or Bloodghasts which you'll need to run fetches for optimal performance. Bloodghasts are good because they can be free allowing you to use your mana for your control game plan.

Thanks for your input but I disagree with some of your suggestions. Arena is killer with Phyrexian Obliterator (which is the entire focus of the deck) and Ghost Quarter is pretty necessary in the current meta, especially at my lgs where there is plenty of infect. 3 seems pretty perfect for Phyrexian Arena as I want to make sure I hit one and extras can just be pitched by lili. I'm not going to run Tarmogoyf in this build because then I would need to convert it to basic b/g rock and by then you might as well play jund. Bloodghast is a decent consideration but seems quite aggressive for a mid-late game deck. However it does put on pressure, establish board presence, and is probably a free creature and BB devotion on the board so it could be quite good here. I have a full set so maybe I'll try working them in and see how it performs

I think the solution is Grim Flayer. Not sure why I didn't think of that before it was suggested..

Grim Flayer is sweet but it would make me suggest you also run Dark Confidant. Those 2 together present quite an uphill battle for most opponents. Even with your high CMC cards I'd still run that combo. On the other hand Grim Flayer works good with Bloodghast too.
