Rakdos dragons in modern?

Modern Deck Help forum

First off let me say I'm probably late to this thought but, with Sarkhan, Fireblood released and the fact his second plus one allows you to spam dragons in play. Had anyone tried this in modern? Now I know it's not format breaking or earth shattering but, you figure with all the aggro and combo running around on paper isn't rakdos a reasonable answer to it? Let me also say I don't expect out to be tier one, he'll no, but if the deck can be made and pulls off 3-2's at a local event and having fun while doing it, why not?!?! Haha

And no I wouldn't just play all the big dumb dragons... only two maybe three come to mind...

The one that bolts a sources controller when it's target and the one that's pro white and you can monstrous.... also would... that would be it for the "good" dragons .... maybe thundermaw too??

After that I was thinking maybe both and the one "good" chandra?

Rest of the deck your usual black red spells. Like bolt, thought seize, inquisition, terminate? Dread bore? Push? Anger... ECT ect.... blood moon? Spirit guide?? Sorry for improper listing but like I said kinda interested to see if it's doable and what you all think and try to hammer it out.

Thanks!!

Good, you mentioned the three out of the four good modern dragons! Thundermaw Hellkite, Thunderbreak Regent and Stormbreath Dragon!

The one you missed is Glorybringer.

Yes, you can very much play that deck. No idea why you want it to be Rakdos though.

Here is a list of decks within the site on this idea:

6ixer,
Yeah, Skred Dragons and Mono-R Prison (feat. Sarkhan) are actually both kinda competitive.

I haven't tried brewing in Rakdos, but I spent a bunch of time working on Dragon Ponza in Gruul and Naya. The decks were a TON of fun and pretty solid, but never truly competitive.

Good luck (and good skill) with your brew!

Boza,
A couple other amazing Dragons:

  • Chameleon Colossus, which is especially good in a meta heavy on Death's Shadow (as few--if any--DS decks can deal with the card at all.
  • Hellkite Tyrant, which has maybe only been played in one competitive deck ever, but is perhaps the most hilarious sideboard tech I can imagine.

I thought rakdos just becuase for turns one through three won't be much besides soot removal, so why not add black for hand disruption (combo) plus surgical in the sideboard and for tron you have fracturing gust, and if it goes long enough, you have black for slaughter games ...ect of and fatal push is a good one drop removal

6ixer,
Yeah, that seems like a good approach. Going Green (for Ramp) was solid, but not amazing ...

See the thing is I'm confident red on its own can deal with the typical agro in the meta. Lightning bolts and anger of the gods make short work of most small aggro. How ever bolt doesn't kill deaths shadow, goyf, or a run away scavenging ooze, and the list can be added to. Hence why black again in theory seems like a good fit becuase of fatal push over bolt, or run both. Push hits and kills most big things in the format(most big things). And with a fair amount of combo running around I'd figure inquisition plus side board surgical seems good. Also what push can't hit is what terminate is there fod. Now not to thread jack my self with all those cards mentioned why not play rakdos mid range?? ?? Just saying but again it's like okay mid range over dragons??? Or no
