Modern NBL Is affinity beatable?

Modern Deck Help forum

I am playing at an eight man modern no banned list tourney and have no idea what to play. The is a single hypergenisis deck, an elves deck and 5 WHOLE AFFINITY DECKS!!! So basically I need to be able to beat affinity and have decent game against hypergenisis and elves. Please help and thanks in advance. BTW if you think miracles is any good please say cause I love a good UW control list.

anything with ratchet bomb, or engineered explosives would be great. Jeskai miracles sounds really good, with Chalice of the Void as game against hypergenesis. side in Stony Silence for affinity?

also anything with Ensnaring Bridge is great.

Elves outraces Affinity on a good draw, and what was said before: Engineered Explosives is really good against them. Hypergenesis isn't a good deck in NBL, seeing as it just gets shit on by everything else in every way imaginable. I personally play infect mostly based on how well it deals with stuff while just playing out the game, and it can beat the broken Affinity draws with Mental Misstep

Also, believe it or not, Miracles is too fair of a deck to be good in NBL. The banlist houses some very degenerate cards, capable of just flat-out beating miracles before it can get positioned well

UR Delver is the consensus best deck in the format. You could probably play some more Forked Bolt and spash a Stomping Ground for 4x mainboard Ancient Grudge and do pretty well.

I'd play Storm. You get to play the most banned banned cards than any other deck in the format (Rite of Flame, Seething Song, Ponder, Preordain, Treasure Cruise all go in this deck) and for the most part you are just faster than Affinity. Hypergenesis can be faster than you are but you get to sideboard counterspells in.

Then again my suggestion for NBM is always "play Storm" so...

Why no-banlist Twin in that meta? Ponder, Preordain...

Bovine073 it kinda boils down to it being too fair of a deck. Its not nearly fast enough for the format

I am thinking going delver as I am used to that deck in modern. Are there any noticeable differences between it and in no banned list modern?

I feel like we had this thread before. And I suggested Stony Silence before too.

NBL Storm eats Affinity (and just about anything else) alive. Access to artifact lands isn't anywhere near enough to compensate for the goodies Storm gets from the ban list.

storm would get seething song and rite of flame? anything else?

Preordain... Ponder... Serum Visions is obsolete under NBL.

Oh, didn't even think about those. But is it really that strong with the cardfiltering?

They push it over the edge. Well the rituals would alrady do that...

Here's an example NBL Storm deck from a site that runs NBL Modern tournaments. Note how it doesn't even need Pyromancer Ascension anymore which means it will be that much more consistent. Also, you can laugh at how they accidentally marked Seething Song as a land.

I have been play testing with Storm for a bit now and I have come up with a list. I like Pyromancer's Ascension in the deck it just makes it go off more easily. I also hate Treasure Cruise because of the anti-synergy with Past in Flames and Pyromancer's Ascension. Should I have two Shattering Spree main deck and then I can swap this two slots for the matchup ( Pyroclasm for elves and Nix for hypergenisis

I think I agree with Ascension, it does make things easier. I am not sure I would mainboard the sprees at all, shouldn't you just be faster game 1?

Yeah, I'm not convinced the list I linked there was fully optimized. It was more to show how grabbing any random NBL Storm deck would reveal a pile of broken.

Adding Ascension back in seems good, and once you do Treasure Cruise loses its appeal because you can't afford four and don't want singletons in an Ascension list (excepting your Storm finishers).

The big appeal with TC alongside Ascension is that if you're doing it right, you could just be drawing 6 cards for 1 mana. It sorts negates the need for Past in Flames
