Lost Legacy: Yay or Nay?

Here is our topic of discussion. Lost Legacy.

Am I reading this card wrong or does it really just get rid of one card out of someone's library?

It's not over a dollar in value but it seems to be an AMAZING deck disruption. You cast it, name Enter cornerstone of your opponents win-con here.

You're reading it right. The issue is that it costs 3 when Surgical Extraction costs 0, and it's pretty easy for most interactive decks to get the card they want gone into their opponent's graveyard. Lost Legacy is a decent card, and sees a bit of play in people's sideboards as combo hate, but it's kind of limited by the fact that Surgical exists.

I actually quite like the cards in Modern sideboards. It's very good against Ad Nauseam, which is steadily increasing in popularity. Or you just name the best card in your opponents deck, like R/W Prison Nahiri. Just name Emrakul or something. Against that really bad deck that mills and has ensnaring bridge, you name ensnaring bridge and they can't stop creatures bar Abrupt Decay.

Surgical is very good as a card to bring in against graveyard decks, like Grixis or dredge or something.

I mean its fine its definitely a sideboard card but it CAN help against combo decks but normally surgical + hand disrpution is enough and more consistent. Also you cant name ensaring bridge or say The Rack because they are artifacts so some decks it doesnt help against

Kiortio: Lantern Control is not a "really bad deck" and Lost Legacy can't get Ensnaring Bridge or pretty much anything else the deck needs to kill you.

Two observations. One, Lost Legacy is $13 cheaper for less mana and a wider aim. Two, even with Ensnaring Bridge your opponent has to kill you. SOMETHING in your deck should get rid of it and if you take out whatever their "killer" is with Lost Legacy or Surgical Extraction then you're good.

p.s. Imagine running 4x of both. Ideally, you could name 4 creatures and 4 not, very mill-like.

Also, Surgical Extraction gives them the chance to play it and if it doesn't go to the graveyard (such as a sorcery) then you have to kill it and put it in the graveyard. Lost Legacy hits it before they play it if you can beat them to punch on mana.

I meant that if something doesn't go to the graveyard like a sorcery does. I worded it badly.

Lost Legacy is one of the best sideboard cards printed in a long time. It's way better than Slaughter Games or Surgical Extraction because you can hit cards like Karn Liberated or Scapeshift before your opponent has a chance to cast them.

The issue with Surgical Extraction and hand disruption is your opponent may not have the card you want to eliminate in their hand, then they just draw it off the top of their deck and kill you anyway.

Slaughter Games, while uncounterable, can be too slow to deal with powerful turn 3 and 4 plays. Nothing like being on the draw and having your opponent cast Ugin, the Spirit Dragon before you can name it. The decks where you want the "uncounterable" part of Slaughter Games are far more vulnerable to other sideboard cards, anyway. Stuff like Thrun, the Last Troll, Kolaghan's Command, Choke, or additional copies of Thoughtseize/Liliana of the Veil/Abrupt Decay are all better options. Anymore than that and you're likely diluting the deck too much.
