Literal Modern Deck Help

Modern Deck Help forum

Hi, I'm not necessarily new to Modern, but, I really can't pick a deck I'd like to play. I'd like to play with some of the staples I've already picked up (4x Wooded Foothills 4x Windswept Heath 4x Lightning Bolt). I'd like to play competitively if that helps with someone helping me.

Slightly related, apologies to Figag among others who helped making the list for my last deck list. I've kinda abandoned it.

Zoo is probably your best bet with those cards.

Sounds like a good start for some research. I suppose I should defer to Chief's Modern primer to begin with.

Naya Burn as well. Trade the Windswepts for Bloodstained Mires and you can build Naya Burn.

Naya Zoo isn't horrible, but not exactly a strong Tier 1. It's more of a 1.5-2 or so. Def got better with Collected Company, though.

If you did want to take Zoo to another level, the better lists run Tarmogoyf, if you can afford them. If not, Scavenging Ooze and/or Knight of the Reliquary are decent substitutes. Domri Rade is also very much at home in Naya Zoo.

Other spells to include are Lightning Helix, Path to Exile, and Boros Charm.

Yeah Naya Burn/Zoo were my first thoughts.

Given that you have Wooded Foothills and Windswept Heath, I'd reinforce the previously suggested Zoo. You can do fine without Tarmogoyf (I'd run a combination of Qasali Pridemage, Scavenging Ooze, and Voice of Resurgence at the 2-drop spot instead), but you'll definitely need some Collected Company, Path to Exile, Wild Nacatl, Loxodon Smiter, and I personally really like Woolly Thoctar, especially with all the Gurmag Angler and Tasigur, the Golden Fang running around.

I wanna gorilla!

That's a zoo deck I'm helping a friend build on the same land base. It's pretty good and a lot of fun. The deck list isn't perfect yet, but it's getting there.
