I would like to take a deeper look into how Red can affect your modern meta and the modern meta as a whole. I believe there is true potential for a Red Control deck, and this is my take on it:

Blood, Bridges, and Burn (variant of Free Win Red)

I am open to suggestions on my deck, so don't hesitate!

Let's talk about all different kinds of Red, like Skred red, Goblins, Big Red, Burn, and Control. We should be able to take these decks to the next level!

Post your Red decks here, and we can help each other out!

Skred, Big skred and Free Wins Red (your deck you linked) are the only fairly playable mono red decks in modern besides goblins and burn which both fare pretty well.

Red is by no means just a support colour in this format. It's exceedingly powerful both on its own and worth splashing for in its own right. I have played izzet skred for a while and someone else plays skred too.... Maybe EverythingIsK

ChiefBell, I should probably change the intro, it makes it seem less useful than it is. I'd love to see that Izzet Skred! Do you know of any devotion or chroma red decks?

It either wins in the first few turns or it doesn't.

That's me!

Red is flexible in terms of support and main colors. It has great removal and decently fast creatures and threats.

I figured I should just Link my folder to all the ways I put skred together. My current iterations are the Skred Dragons is K and Devil's Shaved Ice is K, the latter being the newest one. These however aren't very traditional lists, being they are far more aggressive in terms of how it deploys it's threats through Eidolon of the Great Revel and 4-cmc dragons/ Planeswalkers.

So far, I've had pretty good success with skred, and I think it's very well placed in various metas. There's no real one way to build the deck, as it is pretty flexible on what you can throw in there.

Also worth mentioning that you can have a splash of any color into skred. Skred splashing blue, as what ChiefBell plays, plays a bit closer to blue moon decks with access to counter magic for things skred has issues dealing with, like larger creatures skred can't hit and enchantments. Skred splashing green gives you the sideboard that skred needs, such as Destructive Revelry, and could give you decent threats through Tarmogoyf and pals.

I'd do a review on your list, but I had a long day at work, so I'll get to it when I get back from a nap.

APPLE01DOJ, Kiln Fiend? seems like it'd fit right into your deck. I like it, very cool!

EverythingIsK, Skred has to be one of my favorite decks, so I love to see different variations. I love your two designs. Bedlam Reveler is a card that perplexed me.. it could have a very low floor or it could shatter the ceiling with its potential.. how has it worked for you? I am also curious about Sin Prodder as well.

In your traditional Skred, have you looked into creatures like Goblin Dark-Dwellers, Hangarback Walker, or Pia and Kiran Nalaar? Also, in the versions of Skred that splash another color, is there a planeswalker to replace Koth of the Hammer? I have yet to see a green/red Skred, but that is a deck I have highly anticipated. I look forward to the review!

@Semajss I haven't gotten to updating the base list for some time now. I even have a primer I've been slacking on haha. I think I would add 1-2 Hangarback Walkers and 1 Pia and Kiran Nalaar, since they have so much value for a longer game. Goblin Dark-Dwellers may take up 2-3 slots for the dragons I have. As I said, I haven't looked at it for a long time, so I'll probably edit it tomorrow.

As for your other question, there's currently no other PWs worth splashing for besides Nahiri, the Harbinger in white builds, since her package is 5 cards. I haven't gotten to looking at a Rw build recently, but I recall someone on another thread was working on one. White can give you a good sideboard like green can, but I would have to browse around to see what can become of it.

buildingadeck is the one that plays the more traditional skred that's been posting videos of his games he plays online, which is really helpful.

@EverythingIsK Sounds good! Also, what's your opinion on the boros reckoner debate? I've been kinda negative towards him as of late.

I hope buildingadeck joins us!

@Semajss It's really just preference at this point I think. Some games, he does absolute work. Other times, which is a lot in certain metas like mine, he takes removal that doesn't allow you to bounce damage effectively, and is just a 4-mana combo piece to finish a game. The last couple builds I've played haven't really needed him for reach.

Tl;Dr: Play him if you can, unless you need to use his slot in the deck for something that is more potent.

trillions says... #14

I feel like spot removal is more meaningful then reach in the current meta. I've thought about cards like Flame Slash and Lightning Axe to go along with skerd.

August 3, 2016 3:41 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #15

have played flame slash before. its not bad. Roast is very good though. Dont forget Pyrite Spellbomb either. It draws cards and kills stuff.

August 3, 2016 3:46 p.m.

trillions says... #16

I don't like Pyrite Spellbomb. Against more midrange style decks it doesn't do enough damage. You end up with a lot of 2-for-1's.

August 3, 2016 3:54 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #17

you just use it to draw a card then, which is something every control deck should be doing.

you set it up for a spare mana when you can and then when a poor draw occurs you pop it for 1 mana to draw again.

August 3, 2016 4:01 p.m. Edited.

ChiefBell says... #18

you ought to be playing relic of progentus or pyrite spellbomb or both.

Dabbling with sin prodder and bedlam reveler is something im doing right now but none match the consistency and excellence of a 1 drop that has both utility AND draw power.

August 3, 2016 4:10 p.m.

Semajss says... #19

Pyrite Spellbomb was always an option, but I only considered it for taking out a Kor Firewalker or Etched Champion. besides that I disregarded it, but it could be a one of I think.

I'm a little late to the party as I've been playing Hearthstone since I don't have an LGS where I'm at right now. However, Reckoner is really great in an aggressive meta, but is only okay against control decks. The major plus to Reckoner is that he curves to protect Koth, which is a major win condition. I haven't gotten the chance to look at your list yet, but I like Reckoner because it gives you the ability to counteract a lot of small creatures and have potential for late game combo. In Texas, though, everything is aggressive, so that's part of why it seems better to me.

buildingadeck is that Skred list up to date or have you considered any changes?

August 8, 2016 11:33 p.m.

buildingadeck says... #22

I go back and forth on the second Stormbreath, sometimes trading it out for Wurmcoil. I haven't played since before Eldritch Moon; not sure how that affected the meta, if at all. But I boasted a 66-70% win rate with the deck, and piloted it to 164th place at SCG Open Dallas.

Semajss says... #23

Bedlam Reveler is the only thing that I could really see changing how skred will be played... maybe there is a jank build with Nahiri's Wrath and Boros Reckoner. Besides that I didn't see any modern warping cards, but I could be dead wrong, I only skimmed the surface.

August 9, 2016 10:36 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #24

There was nothing for skred except reveler.

August 9, 2016 10:38 a.m.

EverythingIsK says... #25

Nahiri's Wrath is cute with Reckoner, but I wouldn't run it.

Still working on the primer I started about a year ago, I'm just really bad with focusing and working towards finishing things.
