If Blood Moon is weak then Sphinx's Tutelage is strong and vice versa.... right?

So I have been building a Blue Moon shell and it has gone through quite a few changes since I started... And throughout my deckbuilding I came up with a concept which to me sounds pretty logical but am looking to more seasoned players in the community to verify this concept which is:

"If Blood Moon is weak then Sphinx's Tutelage is (should be) strong and vice versa."

.... right?

  • Seeing as how if an opponent has a "fancy" mana base packed with dual/tri colored lands and or fetch/shock lands or Urza lands ect ect... then Blood Moon should shut them down...

  • And if the mana base is simple then that makes is likely for their deck to have mostly spells that share a color enabling Sphinx's Tutelage to be more effective/efficient.

Im not syaing this is a "Checkmate/unbeatable" strategy I more or less am asking for confirmation that the logic/concept is sound and seems plausible enough to go all in on as a strategy to build my deck around.

NOTE:

  • Originally this was an all-in mill deck however i shifted its focus due to not knowing/caring for my available card pool of how to deal with eldrazi like Emrakul, the Aeons Torn/Kozilek, Butcher of Truth.... i own a playset of Surgical Extraction but am turned off by the opponent getting to reshuffle their gravyard into their library.... So now this Decklist is aiming for a "Mill-assisted" beatdown as a wincon by having growing threats such as Jace's Phantasm/Chasm Skulker/Spellheart Chimera and having the possibility of the mill win be achieved in an attrition match/losing control of the battlefield/boardstate.

Keep in mind that cards like Grim Flayer share a color with both Thoughtseize and Scavenging Ooze.

Your concept is generally sound, but Sphinx's Tutelage doesn't particularly work well unless you're all-in on mill, which doesn't appear to be what your deck is doing.

yeah this started out as an all in mill deck but now am aiming for a "mill assisted beatdown" as seen in some more casual builds with Wight of Precinct Six and Consuming Aberration

plan A: is to win with a 5/5 flyer for ... with the assistance of other growing creatures like Chasm Skulker/Spellheart Chimera and the mill win condition be the plan B for the late game/losing control of the boardstate and such.... or possibly sideboardng in 2 more Sphinx's Tutelage if based on the opponent going all in on the mill would be more efficient than bothering with Blood Moon/Spellheart Chimera.... at least thats the idea/plan

In theory yes, it's true, but your gonna have to have one hell of a control deck for Sphinx's Tutelage to be a realistic win condition outside mill.

If a mill assited beatdown with growing creatures seems to be too much of a stretch.... does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve my Eldrazi issue?.... i thought Ravenous Trap/Surgical Extraction/Relic of Progenitus seemed like good answers.... but because of the triggered ability the opponent still gets to get their GY back into their library and i have to start over... thats what broke me/took me into this "cheeky" direction.

The way to handle the Eldrazi is to leave mana open to counter abilities with cards like Disallow, Or to a worse extent Glorious End. That way their graveyard and the Eldrazi both stay in the yard

Disallow seems like a good idea... I also like Yixlid Jailer/Rest in Peace but my mana base is shaky enough as is without worrying about splashing

Blood Moon stops your opponent. Sphinx's Tutelage is just a slow, and overall clunky win-con, that does very little to interact with your opponent.

Yeah I am currently working towards moving away from Mill in my build... And gonna go in favor of Chasm Skulker and Spellheart Chimera and possibly Keranos, God of Storms with counter spells for protection... I would go in the direction of using traditional Snapcaster Mage shenanigans but I don't own/cant afford the tools to support it... And I don't want to run another combo/netdeck deck with Madcap Experiment and Platinum Angel/similar or reach through the break.... So I'm basically back to the drawing/brewing board

BTW thanks to all for your insight and comments!!! I'm a bit stubborn/thick headed with deck building but the input was honestly very helpful! Happy brewing and good luck to all!

I think Platinum Emperion is a btter choice than Angel for that.
