I need a new budget deck

Modern Deck Help forum

I am looking for a new budget deck that is relatively fun to play. My budget is about $100, so the fewer colors, the better. It doesn't have to be super competitive or anything, but I don't want a deck that's 100% janky. (I currently have a selesnya Bogles deck btw).

List of things I would like from this deck (from most important to least):

  • Under $100

  • Can actually win at least sometimes

  • Is fun to pilot and play against (no 8-rack or lantern control.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

if you find bogles fun, how about mono red burn?
what do you find fun to play? that will significantly impact which decks i might suggest.

I find that a lot of the decks that I've built (and dismantled) were aggro decks whose wincons were attacking my opponent, but I think a combo deck might be fun to try. Winning with instants and sorceries seems to be something I don't do very often, but I would definitely enjoy something new.

Heres a deck for under $100 and can be upgraded to a bit stronger. He does a bunch of budget decks on that site so just look around and see what interests you.

hmmm... most of those kinds of decks are very linear and rather clunky...
have you looked into living end as a strategy? The deck can be fairly budget to get into if you forgo buying tech cards and stick mostly to basic lands, which means its also a good deck to get if you plan to slowly upgrade it.
Otherwise, there's a whole slew of clunky combo decks from mono-blue pili-pala to mono red landslide (look up sex panther on tappedout for that list) to temur kfc (kiln-fiend combo).
all of these clunky decks CAN win, but they all tend to have winrates around 10% against tier 1 refined lists.

Dude proxy up whatever you want lol. That's the best way to know if it's worth buying out. I come up with an idea, proxy it, love it or hate it. The art of building! But if I had to give an opinion on what to build I'd say mono red, or white weenies humans or something like that.

BryanAnthony Mono red burn could be fun, it's more spell focused and mono-colored decks are usually cheaper. Thanks for the suggestion!

DaBean That's a pretty good idea, I'll try that.

DuTogira I think living end would just be destroyed by a Lost Legacy or something similar. As for the other decks, they sound interesting. I'll look into them.

AkromaPhage6 That deck looks pretty good, I'll definitely look at that series.

(Thanks to everyone for leaving suggestions!)

You could try a u/w emeria/sun titan deck. That deck is pretty cheap (and can be even cheaper if you skip fetches and shock lands). It isn't the best deck ever, but it does pretty well against agro decks.

Could you post a link to a decklist? I've never heard of that type of deck.

Budget Emeria ControlThe deck basically plays a bunch of cards with a converted mana cost of 3 or less and then replays them with sun titan and emeria. Cards all have enter the battlefield effects so when you get them out of you graveyard or bounce them with flickerwisp you get something out of it (draw a card, life, a land, etc). This list is budget and could be upgraded by dropping the oblivion rings for paths and upgrading the lands.

Shameless plug for my $20 Delver of Secrets  Flip deck - there are upgrades listed in the description so you can pick and choose what non-super-budget options you want.

Izzet time to be a Delver? *Extreme $20 Budget!*

If you like mono red in any capacity, and not Burn, may I suggest..

Well, in this case, 8-whack, the most cheap and popular version of the archetype. It's also upgradable into this, if you want -

It's quite resilient, and can turn 3-4 fairly regularly. Just my suggestion.
