How many fetchlands?

Modern Deck Help forum

Ok, so I have a modern Burn deck. Right now i have:

4 Wooded Foothills

4 Bloodstained Mire

1 Stomping Ground

1 Cinder Glade

2 Sacred Foundry

in the deck (the rest are mountains).

However, I also want to play both 4 Boros Charm and 4 Atarka's Command mainboard. Besides that, I want to play 4 Destructive Revelry, 2 Deflecting Palm and 3 Kor Firewalker in the sideboard.

Is this manabase able to support all 3 colors?

If not, I think I need more fetchlands. The problem is, that Arid Mesa (and the like) are too expensive for me. So I thought: Would it be viable to play 2-3 Windswept Heath mainboard? It can fetch all the shocklands, but not the mountains.

Would it also be possible to use other dual colored lands (like Battlefield Forge), to support the colors?

How should my manabase look to support these cards?

You should be fine with 8 fetches & 3 shocks. You could add a Clifftop Retreat if you want

You really think I'm able to get both double white for Kor and a green color with only those fetchlands?

Also, what if I play like 2 Clifftop Retreat? Would that be too inconsistent?

If you wanted more fetches I would go for red fetches since they would still fetch for all your colors while still getting mountains

RDW is true. You can look at my land base as a reference if you want. Also, burn is based around red so I would not suggest playing Windswept Heath.

10 fetches if Wild Nacatl, 12-13 if not.

Yes, I know that ideally, I want to run 4 Arid Mesa or 4 Scalding Tarn. However, since they are from Zendikar, they are too expensive for me.

However, HSF117, since you often fetch for a shockland, Windswept Heath could replace the more expensive fetchlands. I just wonder how much a disadvantage that fetchland gives me.

The_Raven: There are plenty of times that you will want a mountain instead of a shock land so having Windswept Heath in your hand can be awkward, but it can replace Arid Mesa or Scalding Tarn, it just won't be as effective.

I personally run 10 fetches, but no reason 8 can't work.

The_Raven why the Cinder Glade over a second stomping ground?

I had a Naya burn deck, and I ran almost exactly what you're running - 4 Mire, 4 Foothills, 2 Foundry and 2 Grounds. However, I didn't have fire walkers, so maybe if you just added a 3rd foundry? I don't think you need more than 8 fetches.

I thought the Cinder Glade could be good in some certain situations. If I have two mountains, it doesn't cost me any life which is great! However, it is basically a leftover from when I only played it g/r. With the white color, I think I needs to go.

So basically, ThisIsBullshit, you think I would be good if I had 8 fetches, 3 foundries, 2 stomping and maybe 1 Clifftop Retreat?

Yeah basically - not sold on the Retreat though
