Hosing Ghost Quarter

Modern Deck Help forum

Alright, folks - I'm trying to get this deck off the ground: Dig for Fire (Twiddle Storm). The most glaring weakness of the deck is it gets completely hosed by Ghost Quarter, which seems pretty prevalent right now. I'm leaning towards sideboarding Wipe Away to deal with it, but I'm hoping there's a better idea out there. Trace of Abundance doesn't let me Twiddle the land it would protect, and land destruction or Spreading Seas would be too slow. One thought I had was to sideboard Blood Moon and run a much more basic land base - but that would definitely cause some mana issues in play. Thoughts?

In my humble opinion there is nothing that 4 copies of Pithing Needle in the sideboard can't take of.

If you want mainboard, I suggest Squelch

Did you see this deck on the storm boards?

I know there were some people talking about it band I tested the deck but it ended up being just worse than UR storm or Unstorm. However if you want to keep on playing it Pithing Needle is probably your best bet. Just go the 12 post route and play some number main to mise randomm opponents.

Thanks. Good shouts. I'm working on a more control-heavy version of the deck that might accommodate Squelch. Pithing Needle will clearly work if Blood Moon can't drop with the right timing. lordoftheshadows: My list is a good bit different than the Twiddle Storm stuff I've seen previously. It's still not quite as good as UR storm overall, but it's built to play better defense and to be able to recover better against certain decks, which I hope works better in the current metagame.

A full set of Needle in the side? Do you hate everything? I'd actually thought of building a kind of Nevermore deck with Needle, Tidehollow Sculler, Meddling Mage, Seize, and IoK, but this isn't exactly the place for that. Anyway, I agree with the above comments, Squelch and Needle prevent Ghost Quarter.

b287213 - I'm not trying to win tournaments with this deck, and it's meant to be a fun build, so I may not go with that super-hate method - though it is probably the best solution.

b287213 I've got a a stock sideboard of 4 needle, 3 graffdigger cage, 3 torpor orb, 3 trinisphere, and 2 relic of progenitus.

I love hate.

This is not what I would have expected from a person that goes by Serendipitous_Hummingbird. Extra points.

Giving your permanents indestructible/hexproof could work, a la Indestructibility, Boros Charm, Simic Charm, Privileged Position.

Additionally, a copy or two of Darksteel Citadel could do the trick, but you can't use Utopia Sprawl on it.

Lastly, have you considered playing Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Arbor Elf? You already wind up with a bunch of permanents enchanted onto one card, so both can put out tons of mana.

sylvannos - Thanks - Simic Charm is interesting. It would help with Abrupt Decay on my enchantments as well. Unfortunately, you're right about Darksteel Citadel, and Arbor Elf would be effective, but wouldn't help build a Storm count.
