Help me beat modern control

Modern Deck Help forum

Posted on Sept. 21, 2016, 12:56 p.m. by pandith

Every single modern tournament is filled with u/w or b/w/u control at my card shop and I am sick of it. I want to build a deck specifically to win against control. Could anyone help me on my quest to make this deck? I need card suggestions, strategy suggestions, anything could help. I don't even know what route I should go.

Control has scarred me and I want to seek my revenge!

Don't worry it's all in good fun :)

Edit: So I have proxied up a G/W Bogles deck yesterday after hearing some ideas from you guys and doing some research. I think this kind of deck will be easy to build quickly and matches my natural playstyle. I do want to make this the best it can be so I can kick their butts and they won't see it coming. It's on my profile if you want to go check it out and tell me what you think, I'm still trying to figure out the best sideboard as of right now. Thank you everyone for your suggestions and assistance!

A strategy tip I find helpful is to play cards on their end step, so you can bottleneck their mana.

Slippery Bogle and Auras. Most control decks have almost no answers for it. Once you punish the crap out of them, you can play a more interesting deck.

Bogles and Burn have already been suggested. I'll second this and add in R/G Tron which is probably the ultimate "fuck you" for control decks.

Okay so I put together a boggles deck on my profile, let me know what you guys think. And just a heads up Horizon Canopy is out of the question because of cost. I was thinking of adding Brushlands but I'm not sure if I would rather have that than just regular basic lands

Also thank you for the suggestions, I really want to kick their butts you guys.

Bogles is a good budget option. It sounds like Tron would be a bit too pricy for you, though it is the deck every control player least wants to see. While control can adapt to Bogles, it can totally blindside unprepared opponents.

ComradeJim270 a good amount of players are already playing tron and they are making everyone angry haha. I've heard a lot of players say they wanted to stop playing for a while just because so many have tron now. I haven't seen anyone play bogles, so I hope I surprise some people with this deck. It's on my profile, tell me what you think? :)

i feel you your pain, nothing is more frustrating than having all your cards countered. If you really want revenge go for a mono red deck with plenty of uncounterable stuff

BanefireExquisite FirecraftSudden ShockAkroma Angel of Fury

Throw in some guttural response, chaotic backlash and combust in the sideboard

That "deck" sounds awful. Like, honest-to-goodness unplayable.

lol its not a deck, just a few cards to build a mono red deck around whose sole purpose is to burn out a control deck. Though if it is done right it could beat some other decks. Heck throw volcanic fallout to the list

If you're going the mono- route, just play good ol' Burn. Burn has a respectable control matchup.
