Hi, So I bought a booster box of modern masters 2017 at $180 as it was too good of a price to pass up. From the box I pulled a tarmogoyf and liliana of the veil as my two mythics! At the moment, I have a standard delirium deck as my main deck, but I have been wanting to switch to modern. I dont have much money too spend but was wondering if there was a deck that I could switch most of my cards over to and upgrade over time to get a playset of tarmogoyfs or something like that. My favorite decks that I have looked at are jund and abzan midrange.
Thanks for listening and please share a deck you know of!
I was looking at abzan company, would a single tarmogoyf and liliana fit well in that deck, I also have 2-3 liliana of the last hopes as well that could fit in. I am also really a fan of kitchen finks for some reason. I could probably afford most of it except the mana base if I sold some of my cards from other decks. Does that sound like a good idea?

If you find a build that works then you can use whatever you'd like :) Magic is a game about creativity. I think at its core, Abzan Company is in a really good spot as it is without Lili's and if you wanted build a deck that does the job like that, then it'd be best to just build it. But, if you're stuck on using the Goyfs and Lili's then you can make a homebrew :) I'd help, but I only have a lot of experience with building Elves, Storm, and Infect

I was just stuck on them because tarmogoyf is my favorite card flavor wise and liliana is just extremely good.

There are sultai delirium lists with Grim Flayers, Goyfs, Thought Scours, and the Lilis. Add some Fatal Pushs, Abrupt Decays, Remands, and Thoughtseizes/Inquisition of Kozilek (or both), and you have most of the deck. Add some random creatures and a couple Courser of Kruphix and Nameless Inversions for synergy, and you have yourself a deck! You could also add a couple 1 ofs (you could even play Kitchen Finks) and 4 Traverse the Ulvenwald.

That sounds interesting aswell, Ill check both of them out and see which one would suit my playstyle and budget better.

You could try a jundy Death's Shadow deck it can play any number of the 3 mana lilianas and it usually needs 4 tarmogoyf but you could try another 2 drop in its place. The only somewhat pricey thing would be the mana base so overall its a cheap deck besides goyfs. You could also try a BG rock deck. Todd stevens has been toying with a list heres the list and it seems fine but you would again need more goyfs and lilianas but you could replace the goyfs with grim flayers for sure. Hope this helps!

The list EmblemMan posted is decent. A good starting point but a bit vanilla and could be refined a little more.

Trade off your Goyf, your Liliana, and your standard deck for a cheaper Modern deck. Merfolk or Skred is your best bet if you only have those three things to trade towards a Modern deck, since those things are around $480 ($90 for the Goyf, $85 for the Lily, $300ish for the Standard deck), Merfolk is around $480, and Skred is around $400. If you have more, then you can play something like Titanshift at $550, or Burn for $550.
The worst thing you can do right now is try to build a budget version of Jund/Junk. I'm telling you right now, you're not gonna be satisfied until you've invested the entire $2000, simply because Jund/Junk on a budget does not work as well as the other Modern decks you could build for the same price.

@KilldatDo you think that abzan company would be a good modern deck to trade my goyf and liliana for to try and build?

Eldrazi and taxes or merfolk also look like cool decks that I could potentially trade for as well.

out of those three abzan company is definitely the best
March 29, 2017 9:40 p.m.
Okay, do you think I could get that for around $500 in trades?

Probably not quite the entire deck in 500 but close to it. The main expensive cards are Verdant Catacombs (you can play other fetchlands itll just be worse) Horizon Canopy (I dont know what you would play to replace this but you can definitely replace it) and Noble Hierarch (I personally do not think you can play the deck without noble)

Yea I would try and replace the lands, but I think that I can afford two nobles which most lists run.

Im downloading xmage to try and make a decklist to see how it works and if I like it. I will also try some other decks in my price range aswell.

Well, being honest with you, getting those playsets of Goyfs and Lilis are going to be quite expensive. You would be able to pay for an entire deck plus more with a playset of Goyfs.
If you haven't heard of it, I think that you would really like Abzan Company. If you pulled those cards along with other goodies from your modern masters box, you'd very easily be able to put it together. The good thing about Abzan Company is that it's a combo deck, but it also can work as a mid range deck too because it runs very valuable creatures.
The only reason I say you might like Abzan Company better than say a G/B and G/B/W midrange deck is because 8 of the cards in the deck is going to cost you 750-800 dollars to acquire all of them. The rest is going to cost you another 500 dollars, adding up to a total of 1200-1300 dollars, which is really a lot if you haven't played a deck and you're not sure if you actually like it. Abzan Company is great because you get a lot of value cards that you can use in other decks later if you decide that it's not the right deck for you and you end up buying it.
In general I would suggest proxying up some decks and testing them out against other players to see if you like playing a deck. That's the best way to really know you want to have a deck and continue to play it or not
