Curses

Modern Deck Help forum

I have a curse deck that i'm trying to build and make viable for modern. First off, i have no clue how to build the mana base. Most of the deck is black but i do have a couple of curses that are red, white, or blue.

And second question, what could i add or remove from the deck to make to more consistent?

I'm going to be honest, this deck isn't viable for modern. your curses are 4 mana at the cheapest, and without tutors, it won't be consistent. Most, if not all modern decks will win or gain an arbitrary advantage by that point.

I disagree with the above the deck can be viable for modern but not in its current form, curses are weak but not unplayable.

Narrow down your curses and add more control. Damnation and hand hate and stuff. Its totally doable, particularly with Bitterheart Bitch.

*more Damnation and stuff like that.

Gonna have to agree with Wurmlover here - a deck that doesn't do anything to actually win the game until Turn 5 onward is not Modern viable. You will lose a lot if you take this to anything other than a kitchen table environment (and maybe even there). This is not a concept that is at the requisite power level of the format, and frankly, it might not even be at a Standard power level even if all the Curses were legal there.

You could MAYBE make a deck on Curse of Exhaustion, and then add removal and counterspells to taste. But this is too slow - it takes many turns to get enough curses to actually hurt your opponent, and even under a couple of curses, most decks aren't really stopped from playing, just hindered.

Looking at your deck right now, have you considered 8-Rack? You're basically playing the deck already and have some of the more expensive pieces out of the way (Ensnaring Bridge, Damnation).

As far as winning with curses goes, I think the others are right. You're gonna need to switch colors around, at the very least. R/W with Curse of Exhaustion, Curse of the Pierced Heart, Possibility Storm, and Porphyry Nodes + whatever gods (Heliod, God of the Sun is amazing here) seems like your best bet. Combined with your Ghostly Prisons and removal, you shouldn't have too many problems stalling the game until you lock your opponent out with Possibility Storm.

Alternatively, there's some good U/W Enchantment Control decks floating around online. Here is one recently posted on MtG Goldfish. Here's a mono-white version posted on Star City Games that can easily be altered to include what you want to play.

8-rack is a deck that aims to kill its opponent with The Rack and Shrieking Affliction by using discard to get them empty handed and then hiding behind prison pieces while your opponent slowly dies.

Ooh ok i understand now. The deck list that I have up was going to be the final deck I don't have all the card yet for it. Right now the only cards I have are the curses. I'm thinking of building that white blue budget deck that you showed me that seems like it has a lot of promise. What would be upgrades to that deck if there are any

ok guys, so I think I've gave up on the curses, maybe gonna make a curse deck for casual play instead. Instead, I have decided to just make a W/U Prison deck. It'll be a bit budget and might need some work.

Here is the W/U deck:
