With the key cards of this deck rotating out later this month, I've decided to begin the process of converting it into a Grixis deck. Any and all suggestions are welcome for how black can contribute to this build, as well as cards from Modern to replace the standard cards.

Presumably you'll want to convert this into a grixis control shell supporting Sphinx's Tutelage. My only concern would be that once you've put in the control package, you're not going to have a huge amount of space for much else.

But as for cards that could work:

Control - Remand, Lightning Bolt, Terminate, Murderous Cut, Cryptic Command, Mana Leak

Card advantage - Ancestral Vision, Electrolyze, Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip, Snapcaster Mage

My goal is to maintain a viable offensive component while still supporting Sphinx's Tutelage.

Loboargost: you're playing a mill strategy. "Mill" and "Offensive" don't really go hand in hand. The closest cards I can think of which would help achieve this are Chandra, Flamecaller and Mindcrank.

The offensive component is meant to work in tandem with the milling to add pressure. It works well enough in its current form to that end. It also already runs Chandra, Flamecaller.

So you already have it built then?

Do you have a link to the deck, it sems like a much better idea to see what you have and then work from that rather than just throwing card suggestions in the ring.

i provided a link to the deck's current form. Right now it's an Izzet build for standard. Which I want to turn into a Grixis build for modern.

If you're going to be aggressive there's not point milling. Decks need to choose 1 win condition and go all in on that. Infect decks don't also mix in normal damage. Normal damage decks don't mix in milling. Milling decks shouldn't mix in damage. If you mix and match your win conditions it's perfectly possible to often arrive at a situation where the opponent is at 1 life and has 1 card in the deck and you lose. If you stick to one strategy it's much more likely at least one win condition (loss of life, infect damage, or cards in library) is met.

You don't get any extra points for having the opponent nearly dead, nearly milled, and nearly on 10 infect. You win the game by fully meeting one condition. Therefore streamlining and consistency dictates that you might as well pursue one win condition to the best of your ability.

Truth be told, the offensive component is kept in the sideboard by default. In case I need to be a little aggressive to put on some pressure while my milling does its work. The deck has served me well during its run in standard in its current form.

That's fine and I don't doubt its standard efficacy but obviously modern is a very different game. Most of the decks run 1 to 2 turns faster than standard with turn 3 and turn 4 wins being possible for some of the premier aggro decks in the format. Therefore as a response to the threat of aggro any slower deck needs to have very powerful answer cards.

I'd still like a mill deck that carries the sinister feeling of Grixis. Like it's not just your mind, but also your body at stake. I may call it a modern deck, but it isn't for tournament play. Just casual games with friends. Lightning Bolt is a given, but I'd also like to see about filling the black section with a few demons. Ob Nixilis Reignited, Desecration Demon, and Indulgent Tormentor are being considered. As are Dimir cards from the Ravnica blocks.

I have to say though I agree with ChiefBell here. Even if you're trying to go for the sinister grixis feel, you can achieve that in non aggro ways. Or at least just run the Cruel Ultimatum + Living Lore package as the central theme of the deck.

Also, if you want to build a grixis modern legal deck, the fact that you linked your standard Izzet deck doesn't help for the new deck. Having a new deck list where others can see what you're thinking of running for your modern deck and provide feedback on that is much more important given your question was about porting the deck over to modern. Unless you actually tell us the cards you're thinking of running, we don't really know. I cant speak for everyone here but I'm not a mind reader.

Well, if you still want to support two plans, go for this: http://www.starcitygames.com/events/coverage/grixis_waste_not_with_adrian_s.html
Slam in the tutalege and mill to your hearts content. Or win with zombies from waste not.
