Countryside Assault:R/G Modern

So I've slowly tinkered with my Loam build for a while, getting a lot og priceless advice from here and at mtgsalvation on ways to build effectively on a minimal budget. Finally my LGS has begun supporting the format again and I am hoping, schedule permitting, to attend an event soon. However, I'm struggling with a sideboard. I've had some ideas in the past but looking at them now I'm beginning to second guess myself. Any input would be appreciated

A friend of mine has given me a heads up on regular players in the meta. He said there is Tron, Lantern Control, 8rack, Merfolk, Bant Eldrazi, Naya Burn and Infect with some different decks every now and then.

Gnaw to the Bone could be okay against burn and merfolk, maybe against 8rack too (assuming you are on a budget, that is).

Besides, you need to bring anti-artifact and -enchantment cards, and quite a bit of it, in your SB. Otherwise you will be shut down by Chalice of the Void on 2, Rest in Peace, and other GY-hate.

I planned on using Ancient Grudge at least for artifacts. I'm not sure with enchantments though if anything I can eun a couple Naturalize's.

I have a couple Burning-Tree Shaman's that I had incase on Splinter Twin or other combos of that nature. Twin's an out but does anyone think they might still be viable?

I have Ghost Quarter main deck but should I run something like Sowing Salt or Molten Rain in the side?

I don't think Burning-Tree Shaman is particularly good in the meta you describe. None of these decks activate abilities in the same way splinter twin decks did. 4 or 5 aether vial activations from merfolk, or a few activated artifacts from tron isn't really the same. Could be decent against lantern control (which you also need artifact hate against), but nothing else.

That's the matxh up I was kinda thinking of but maybe I should just stick with more artifact hate for that one.

I have a single Obstinate Baloth I was thinking would be good for 8rack and burn... with Gnaw to the Bone for burn as well I was looking at other things that punish hand disruption... would Guerrilla Tactics sound good or too clunky?

Obstinate Baloth is probably not bad. Don't really know about Guerilla Tactics... it doesn't have the same level of threat as a cmc 4, toughness 4 creature (only with revolt activated can Fatal Push kill it, and it's outside Lightning Bolt-range.

Hand disruption isn't so bad for your deck, unless it's followed by The Rack and/or Shrieking Affliction, as it is for other decks. you can just restock your hand with lands (from loam) and not use them, until your opponent plays discard spells at you. And making you discard Life from the Loam is kinda wasteful - you just dredge it back.

I almosy forgot, He said Boggles was a thing. Pyroclasm is going to be a must in this.

Taking the input I've gotten here and my current collection into account I jave 13 or 15 cards set aside for sideboard options.

Ancient Grudgex2Naturalizex2Pyroclasmx2Gnaw to the Bonex2Obstinate Balothx1Sowing Saltx1 (just what I have, otherwise would be Crumble to Dust )Tormod's Cryptx1Pithing Needlex1Crucible of Worldsx1 (this is has been suggested main but I want to test it, especially with Ghost Quarter )

If I could I wpuld get another needle and baloth for the last two slots... thoughts?

Golgari Brownscale will shit all over decks that try to race your life total.

For your draw step, dredge back Golgari Brownscale -> main phase, cast Faithless Looting -> dredge back Golgari Brownscale -> discard Golgari Brownscale -> flashback Faithless Looting -> dredge back Golgari Brownscale -> discard Golgari Brownscale

You just gained 6 life, dredge up 6 cards, and you still have the ability to gain life in turns down the road. God forbid if you have 2+ Golgari Brownscales and proceed to gain 4 to 10 life each turn from Magmatic Insights, Goblin Lore, Cathartic Reunion, or Tormenting Voice.

Not to mention, you can just cast the stupid thing.

Guerrilla Tactics is good against a field of Liliana of the Veil. However, it's really narrow in that regard so playing Obstinate Baloth is going to be better.

Ray of Revelation is also a nice piece of tech because of the value of casting it after you've pitched it to something, similar to plays done with Ancient Grudge.

Really the strongest play against Boggles is Smallpox. But since you're on a budget, adding another color isn't feasible. Pyroclasm is going to be the next best thing, but you also have to worry about their creature getting out of range before you can immediately nuke their guy.

I think in your situation, it's Pyroclasm on turn 2 or be forced to race. That's about all you can do once they have a creature with 3+ toughness.

Lastly, do you have any Conflagrates available? The card is pretty stupid. I found it to be the strongest thing for when you don't have Seismic Assault out. Mostly, it enables all of your graveyard stuff.

I do have some Golgari Brownscales. I didn't think of it but you illustrated beautifully how ridiculous it can be.

I don't have any Conflagrates but it is definitely something to keep in mind as time goes and I get the money to upgrade the sideboard.
