Budget Modern

Modern Deck Help forum

What do you guys think is the best budget Modern deck? I am running a budget 8-Rack deck, but I'm kind of getting bored of that, and I lose a ton to a bunch of matchups in my local meta.

My definition of budget is $150>, so keep that in mind please. I'm in middle school, so I don't get the most money.

Thanks for your help!

I would suggest playing polymorph. its a deck that basically cheats out a creature t4. and since you can only have one giant creature, it is very budget. I have an example that is around $180, so you can mess around with it to get to what you want. read the primer too. it'll help.

Depends on your preferred style. I can say that you should not water down an expensive deck to your budget, and never ever cheap out on the land base. Build a deck that can be built cheaply on its own. A few examples include:

  • Burn (minus Goblin Guide)
  • Some form of UR Delver/aggro
  • Mono-blue Tron
  • Skred

Those are some of the more typical examples. You can also check out the Budget Magic series on mtggoldfish. SaffronOlive creates some great content. My personal favorite has been UW Spirits, which I'm very close to building myself for funsies. It can be incrementally upgraded as your budget expands - Seth went 5-0 (kind of) with the non-budget version!

Budget Infect also works pretty well, as does GR Bushwhacker Zoo.

I've been toying with a budget human based Soul Sisters deck that has done pretty well online.

Right now, the Death Shadow zoo seems to be somewhat inexpensive. Sure, you mess lands fetches, shocks, Death Shadow and Mishra's Bauble. Besides this, everything should be pretty inexpensive.

Merfolk is hardly budget.

I suggest this though... Mono Blue Control - Annihilation -

Try a storm deck, they are quite fun especially if you're just bored of your current one, having two decks add that bit of spice to your life you need and t3-4 wins are nice
