I'll just copy-paste this here.

"Been a kitchen-table player since Theros, but haven't had anyone to play with for a while. Always been interested in Modern but the power level and "figured out-edness" always spooked me.

Really like Keranos, God of Storms and Mogis, God of Slaughter, and would love if I could squeeze them into some sort of budget attrition-based Control list.

pls halp"

So I'm wanting to dive into Modern, but I'm not terribly familiar with what cards you need. I won't have the chance to go to my "local" GS (there's some distance) very often either, so I'd rather have at least a basic deck going in.

So as far as "grixis control goes," some must haves would be Terminate, Lightning Bolt, Mana Leak, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Thought Scour, Serum Visions, maybe Delver of Secrets  Flip if you want to have a little early aggression. Anger of the Gods might be an interesting main deck card, and should definitely be in the sideboard. You could put Keranos, God of Storms in, but I wouldn't recommend Mogis, God of Slaughter. If you are willing to spend a little bit of money, I would suggest Spell Snare and Cryptic Command. I won't recommend using Fatal Push because I doubt you have the appropriate fetch lands? It's also a dumb $5 uncommon in standard, so theres that also.

Good stuff, thanks. Unfortunately I don't have FetchLands, but I intend to make this a "project" deck that I'll slowly work on over time.

How come Keranos is fine but Mogis isn't, though? They don't seem terribly different in my eyes.

Keranos is simply a much better card. It draws you a card or it does 3 damage, which is just much better return. Mogis is basically a 4 mana "deal 2 damage every turn" which doesn't seem great to me. Maybe you can play it if you don't have anything else to fill the deck with?

Eh, I have one lying around so he might be in the initial draft of the deck. I really like chip damage for some reason so the card kind of speaks to me. Cards like Searing Blood are especially cool.

If you are looking for budget options to start with (ie not Cryptic Command, Snapcaster Mage, or Ancestral Vision), I'd suggest looking at cards like Young Pyromancer and Faithless Looting. I'd also second the previous mentions of Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Thought Scour, Serum Visions, Terminate, and Lightning Bolt.

Excellent, thanks, I'll know what to prioritize.

What's the idea behind Thought Scour, though? Do I target myself for Delve? Is it there to proc Young Pyromancer? At face value it seems odd to spend a mana and a card in order to draw a card.

Yeah, it's there to fuel delve for Tasigur. it's also good with snapcaster mage, but that isn't really relevant for you
