Broken/Infinite combos and are they worth it

Modern Deck Help forum

As you can probably tell by the title, I would like to discuss absurdly broken combos and infinite combos, aswell as if they are worth it for the cost payed to achieve it.

I have one BIG request: try to give a broken or even infinite MODERN combo, then tell if it is worth it or not (if we run out of combos feel free to come right in).

I will start off:

Presence of Gond+ Midnight Guard = infinite creatures

NOT WORTH THE EFFORT I was always missing one card or the other.

Panoptic Mirror + any turn spell with no hitch = infinite turns

UNDECIDED only works half the time.

Panoptic Mirror feels really slow for it to be modern viable. Presence of Gond + Midnight Guard is faster but the tokens don't have haste, and can be destroyed by creature removal which is does make it slightly more susceptible to interruption compared to the mirror.

are you looking to avoid the common ones like the melira combo? (Melira, Sylvok Outcast/Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit + Kitchen Finks/Murderous Redcap + sac outlet)

To be honest I have littles use in these combos, but I want to see what I don't know. Do you know any good combs, yourself?

well there's splinter twi....... nevermind.

In all seriousness there's a kiki-twin combo deck that can go one of two ways both involve controlling temp until you pull it off. You can do the oldy but goody Pestermite/Deceiver Exarch and then drop a Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker activate kiki on one of those, make a copy, untap kiki rinse lather repeat until you got all you need and swing for lethal. There's also the same combo but with Restoration Angel instead where you blink kiki for the resto ability

I'm aware of a few. Most are not overly viable, and are generally included simply in the event it happens naturally while going for the deck's primary objective.

One I use frequently (or as frequently as I can) is Prophet of Kruphix + Screeching Sliver + Telekinetic Sliver and as many 1-2 drop slivers as you can manage. Each of your turns, mill them out, each of their turns, tap their lands and/or creatures in their upkeep. The combo can accelerate as quickly as or faster than your opponent can play more lands by adding in Dormant Sliver. It's efficient and not overly challenging to accomplish. The major flaw is it's usual reliance on initiating it while having at least as many slivers as your opponent has lands and/or creatures, which can't always be managed.

well the anafenza one is pretty popular right now.
there are a lot of infinite combos. ill name a few.

Intruder Alarm can replace Midnight Guard in your mentioned combo (you do technically need another creature though).

Restoration Angel+Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker

Pili-Pala+Grand Architect

3xOblivion Ring is technically infinite if you want, but you need something else to make it worth it.i should also ask if you care about non-infinite combos.

because most modern combos aren't actually infinite. examples are Grapeshot decks, Scapeshift+Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and Ad Nauseam. none of those are infinite, but all of them win by combo.

I mean technically Abzan company deck has like 3 combos in one deck that happen normally.

I just want to see the most insane combos in modern, that may not be overly popular/used.

Thanks, and Happy Hunting

Evershrike + Spirit Loop : Basically with Evershrike in the graveyard and the Spirit Loop in hand you have a 4/4, Uncounterable, Flash, Flying, Lifelink for four mana, that can always come back if killed due to Spirit Loop's effect.

I've run this combo before and it ends games, because my opponent most cases can never get rid of it, it eats most creatures, and it provides life gain when you're in a tight spot.

Biggest two problems are getting both the pieces consistently, and removal such as graveyard hate and/or "exile target creature" spells. The inconsistency is the greater of the two troubles to deal with and usually makes the combo not worth running though. It's either hit or miss.

I mean there's a modern legal combo in commander that forces an instant draw unless the opponent interacts with it.

Sporemound, Life and Limb and a land drop preferably a forest for flavor. And then you ask them if they can stop you.

Elemental Mastery+Midnight Guard is better, infinite 1/1s with haste.

Duskmantle Guildmage's first ability and Mindcrank. I've been able to pull off this combo fairly regularly with my mill deck swinging with Dimir Infiltrator to get the combo going.
