Modern Deck Help forum

So I've been playing MtG a long time but stopped doing anything outside of EDH quite a while ago. I would like to have a modern legal deck that can work at a semi-casual multiplayer table and at more competitive groups. Looking at ~$100 budget, I don't expect to ever win anything with it just have it as something I can pull out when no one wants to play commander or for a FNM event.

I enjoy combo decks but I want the combo to be part of the deck not have the deck be part of the combo. My favorite color combination is golgari. So I'm just starting to poke around for thoughts and ideas and wanted to get an idea of what I might have to face. Dosen't need to be combo or those colors those are just more interesting to me is all.

Is ninja tribal a possible thing? I tired that before but I wasn't nearly as good of a deck builder at the time.

Ninja tribal is kind of iffy cause the entire purpose of Ninjutsu better serves doing some seriously weird combat tricks, and typically requires using creatures from outside the tribe.

So at first I was going to suggest picking up the Modern Event Deck (if you can find it). It's tokens and it's actually pretty decent among meta decks. I have owned it and used it since it came out. Good for some casual modern play or non-serious tournament play.

Alternatively, (if tribal is something you like) I was reminded of this deck I cooked up a while back.

It's more aggro based but it has great synergy and if you scratch out the fetches and shocks it should be well within your budget range. Bitterblossom would be the only other cut if you're tight on price.

Hope it helps.

Golgari, combo that forms part of the deck, and roughly $100 budget? Sounds like Elves to me. Here's a list that you can use as a template:

I agree with rothgar13 either elves tribal, or you could go for seismic swans, I think that rings in right at about 100 bucks, its a janky way to win, but should be fun!

Or scavenge, with Varolz, the Scar-Striped and whatever highpower/low-cost creatures you can find.
