Are Treefolk viable in Modern?

Modern Deck Help forum

I'm looking to get into modern.

Since I dig Treefolk and I already have plenty Treefolk cards lying around, I wanted to ask if this kind of deck is even close to competetive.

And if yes, if there is any semi-competetive decklist around.

Not really competitive as much as just really fun to play. Cards like Assault Formation and the like can help a great deal, i see big booty decks splashed quite a bit at my local games, they are a fun shake up but rarely win. Ive actually wanted to build one for a while just to see a death shadow players face plummet when a Tree of Perdition gets tapped and goes off!

Bulldawg1310 the scenario you describe sounds hilarious!

I already have a few of these lying around.

My friend and I had just been talking about making a competitive treefolk deck and came across this deck on tappedout. Hope it helps!

That's actually a nice and affordable decklist. Especially since i already own most of these cards!

One of my buddies built Mono-Green Treefolk and it's a great metagame call.

A lot of your creatures dodge the format's removal, except Path to Exile. They're too big to hit with cards like Pyroclasm. You get a lot of value from the Treefolk you do play.

Just from memory (so I'm not sure if this is the exact list), he plays something like:

4x Cavern of Souls
4x Blighted Woodland
16x Forest
---------------------------------------------------
24 Lands

4x Bosk Banneret
4x Dauntless Dourbark
4x Dungrove Elder
4x Leaf-Crowned Elder
4x Seedguide Ash
4x Timber Protector
4x Treefolk Harbinger
---------------------------------------------------
28 Creatures

4x Lignify
4x Rootgrapple
---------------------------------------------------
8 Other Spells

Sideboard:
2x Beast Within
1x Choke
2x Creeping Corrosion
3x Nature's Claim
3x Relic of Progenitus
2x Scavenging Ooze
1x Thragtusk
1x Woodfall Primus

I'm not sure if this is his exact list or what his sideboard looks like. I don't remember if he plays much mana ramp (Search for Tomorrow and Sakura-Tribe Elder both help a lot). I think that's a decent recollection of what his sideboard looks like, but I'm not positive on that either (just that it had the usual green hatecrap found in Modern).

So there are three versions of Treefolk that you could play.

GWB Doran Midrange. Basically you use Treefolk Harbinger as set up and a Wild Nacatl expy. Doran, the Siege Tower as a 5/5 for 3. Tarmo, Lili, all that GWB midrange good stuff, maybe even Rhino.

Mono Green which leans on lands and Dungrove Elder to pressure decks and curve out.

4c combo. Turn 1 Birds of Paradise, turn 2 Doran, the Siege Tower, turn 3 Mardu Ascension. Attack, making 2 goblins. Sac Mardu. You are now swinging for 20.
