Are the swords worth it?

Modern Deck Help forum

I am building a combo deck, and am trying to come up with a backup plan incase of a combo failure. I looked to the swords, bu I'm not sure they're worth it. what do you think?

EDIT: The cards I want to keep in the SB are Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Blazing Archon, 2 Hurkyl's Recall, and Iona, Shield of Emeria

Idk about all of them in my opinion the sword of feast and famine is well worth it I just haven't bought one because my local shop hasn't had one

nebby2012, what I was trying to do was give it an equipment sub-theme game 2 with the delvers and all.

I wouldn't use any swords, even post-sideboard. If you want to switch into a Mono-Blue Delver list, I would think Thing in the Ice, Vendilion Clique, or something along those lines would be better. You don't have enough critters and the equipment become a liability.

in my experience its best to have a deck that goes for combo game two, so it doesn't get seen coming

sylvannos, I tried switching to a delver list by siding in delvers, things, snapcasters, and 3 psionic blast, but there were still a good amount of matches where hate they brought in for polymorph was still effective against delver. I'm just looking to find a good plan other than true delver that could work. one person I saw used Runechanter's Pike on an inkmoth to swing for lethal or close to lethal, but in my experience, I never dump enough Instants/sorceries in my grave for it to be good.

Entrei, I thought about doing that, but I felt that I wanted to keep the deck centered around polymorph. I thought if I made the main deck a delver list, then switched to polymorph, I would just as soon make a delver deck.

Sword of Fire and Ice is worth it but not in your deck. You just don't have any bodies to really run it.

APPLE01DOJ, do you think it could be a sideboard card if I also side in some bodies with it?

also, APPLE01DOJ, if not the swords, what would you recommend as a backup plan incase the combo fails for whatever reason?

Well I really feel Lingering Souls is what your deck needs.

Manlands are a strong back up plan. I know you have Inkmoth Nexus+Runechanter's Pike but I feel like that plan is too weak. It's easily tampered with using common sideboard cards. Something like Creeping Tar Pit would be much stronger.

Secure the Wastes would also be strong.

I also feel the need to mention. 20 lands is just not enough. 24 would be about right.

APPLE01DOJ, I feel that going 3 colors would make the deck pretty ridiculously expensive for what it would do. I tried going 2 colors, UB, but I couldn't figure out how to get the perfect ratio of discard to removal to counters. The manlands are a good idea, though. I also wanted to stay away from things like the token generators, just because if I rely too much on tokens, people can just path or push or bolt whatever I try to target with polymorph. I also just feel that manalnds are a little slow, but maybe thats just because I haven't tried them yet. also, I have 22 lands. 2 Ghost Quarter are there, they're just easily missed because there under the control heading.

I would build 3 color and test it out on untap.in before you commit to buy.

APPLE01DOJ, I already do that with most of my decks, what I'm saying is I don't want to spend like $800 on a modern deck when I could build a cheaper version that is still just as competitive. I did build a UB version last night, if you want to check it out, http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/metamorphosis-20-now-dimir/
