Would Dovin Have Been a Great Ally for New Phyrexia?

With the possibility that Ashiok may be seeking an alliance with New Phryexia, I am lamenting that another planeswalker who would have made a great ally for them shall never be able to do so.

I am not pleased that Dovin Baan was killed off so anticlimactically, since I feel that there was still great potential for him as a character. Dovin was fond of identifying and fixing what he perceived to be "flaws," and nowhere in the multiverse is there a faction of beings more obsessed with perfection than is Phyrexia, so I think that Dovin would have been a great ally for them.

What does everyone else say about this? Would Dovin have been a great ally for New Phyrexia?

Yes, Dovin would have been a fantastic Phyrexian. He was even an artificer to some degree.
Chalk it up to another “wizards totally screwed the pooch on THAT one” moment.

Or maybe teZzeret salvaged his corpse?

To elaborate on the conspiracy theory...tezzeret and Baan had an uneasy relationship while serving Bolas, but they recognized each other’s skills. Tezzeret also has a prior relationship with the praetors, and I’m sure could arrange a salvage...

Where did you read that Ashiok may be looking to align with Phyrexia?? I’d love to read that

Daveslab2022, I believe that that was mentioned in the brief story summary that WotC provided for Theros: Beyond Death.

The hint we have wrt Ashiok is that Ashiok planeswalked away after being intrigued by the phyrexian horrors Ashiok found in Elspeth's nightmares.

I don't know much about the praetors as characters, but I get the sense that the phyrexians in general would view themselves as the ultimate in superiority. I'm not convinced they would be humble enough to accept strategic advice from someone who has not been compleated. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong in this interpretation.

RicketyEng, that does make sense, although I still feel that this is a major missed opportunity.

Here’s how it should have gone down: Right before death on kaladesh, Baan walks away out of desperation, landing on new Phyrexia. He is taken for completion, and emerges as a perfection-obsessed phyrexian walker (and a fantastic major villain for the next arc). Baan and the phyrexians wouldn’t get along if he weren’t completed, but if he were... well he’d be an oil spreading menace.

Doesn't possession of a spark make planeswalkers immune to the oil and being compleated?

DuTogira congratulations! You have just described Darth Vader.
