Will Sorin Ever Get Out Of That Rock?

Is Sorin just gone as a character now? Presumably he can only come back in another return to Innistrad, so is the plan to leave him out of the next five years of MtG at least? With Kaya just being released I'm a little concerned... Is he ever getting out of that rock?

bennybubbles says... #2

Well he has to either get out or somehow feed himself within a month, or he dies.

Simply put, if Wizards would have wanted him to die, he could have been killed immediately. So he's still a tool they can use.

He seems like a rock solid choice if they need a charakter to return.

Stop that.

bennybubbles alright, sorry. No hard feelings.

EpicFreddi Nah, I think he would be too hard to bring back out of the blue. To pull him out, they would need a good explanation. It's a shame- Sorin rocks.

yeah he can. if they were gonna kill him they would have done that. if Nahiri isnt forced to undo it once she is captured, someone really powerful might be able to break him out (Bolas, and he makes Sorin do a couple errands for him?)

He's dead! Vampires on Innistrad eventually wither away and die if they do not drink enough blood. Nahiri trapped Sorin so he would not be able to Planeswalk (the stone was literally biting into him, so if any attempt is made to free him the stone will tear him apart). He cannot escape, use magic, and therefore has no way of drinking blood and will eventually wither away and die. Go Nahiri!!! : )

I am certain that Sorin shall escape: he is a popular character, so WotC will not kill him off at any time soon, and, if they were planning to do so, they would have done it, already, and not left him to an ambiguous fate. I hope that WotC shall not make us wait until a potential third Innistrad block to reveal his ultimate fate.

Homura_Akemi Nahiri condemned millions to death in order to "get back" at him. There's a reason why she's listed as a villain by Rosewater. Sorin isn't much better, but at least he has some morality.

In case anyone didn't catch the sarcasm in my last post, I was just trying to make some rock prison puns. It wasn't a serious post.

Someone could easily be providing him with blood while he's in there waiting to get out, we don't know. Don't just say he's dead for sure simply because you don't like him, that's childish. There are plenty of characters far more powerful than Nahiri will ever be who could undo it. Her skill in lithimancy means nothing when you're talking about Karn or Bolas level of power.

I think Ugin may save him, but I'm not sure.

Homura_Akemi says... #14

shinobigarth it's childish to think he'll survive just because you like him. Sorry, but who would feed him blood? The only one who knows where he even is is Olivia Voldaren (New Lord pf Innistrad lol), and I doubt she'll pay him another visit. I bet Nahiri will show up at the Fair on Kaladesh and her and Saheeli will have a stone vs metal off. That would be boss. Nahiri you can win!

DarkLaw everyone on Innistrad would have died eventually so... Sorry that's the Golgari in me

Dredge4life says... #16

Realistically, he has too much of a fan base for WotC to kill him off. The surviving members of the Markov bloodline will probably feed him, and if not it's not Olivia's style to let him have the mercy of death. My only worry is the existence of Kaya. She threatens him in the W/B walker slot, and I like Sorin a lot better.

August 31, 2016 9:44 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #17

Exactly. Olivia might feed him just so that he owes her. That's something she would do. It would make her feel like the top vampire, Sorin needing her help.

Me saying he's not dead isn't childish at all, it's simply stating how if they wanted to kill him off, they would have made it clear. In any kind of fiction, leaving someone in a position like this is an easy way to write them out of the story without making it irreversible like death, and often the character is brought back years later. Just saying "he's dead!! go Nahiri!" is just naive and shows your lack of knowledge about fiction writing. A character is never dead until they are confirmed as such, especially a powerful vampire.

August 31, 2016 10:28 p.m.

EpicFreddi lol!!!!

shinobigarth good call, I think someone like Bolas is exactly who would rescue him. Or Ugin.

August 31, 2016 11:13 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #19

and Bolas is being written back into the main story. they just announced the next block after Kaladesh, its something very Egyptian sounding, which is said to be the home plane of Bolas.

Homura_Akemi Only after, and not before, Nahiri's childish actions. Innistrad was literally being balanced by angels until she drove them insane and introduced Emrakul for good measure.

Yeah, there is 0% chance of Sorin being left to die. Wizards is too scared to do that to an old walker. Nowadays, at least.

Homura_Akemi says... #21

If someone rescues Sorin, they'd literally just have him in their house as a decoration lol and that would not be a sight I would want to see when I am waking up and going to bed. It does bother me that they didn't confirm Sorin's death for Sorin fans like you guys.

September 1, 2016 6:38 a.m.

shinobigarth says... #22

why does that bother you? he's not the nicest guy but he's not a massive douche like you think he is. he legitimately didn't receive Nahiri's cry for help, not on purpose but because he didn't know that would happen when he created the Helvault and Avacyn. and then not feeling remorseful about it? he's just not that kind of person and he knows it wont change the past either, so why cry crocodile tears about it after the fact?

I don't think he can get out. He has tons of stones sticking into him there probably the only thing keeping his organs from falling out

Nicol Bolas could easily free Sorin so that Sorin would owe him a favor. I've read in another post on here that Liliana and Bolas aren't working together/aren't on good terms anymore, (I missed this part of the Lore somewhere), so Bolas could be looking for some more Walker help.

Also Sorin could be pretty pissed when he gets free. He could potentially come back as . What Walkers do we have in those colors? Sarkahn is dead in every timeline isn't he?

September 7, 2016 3:59 a.m.

EpicFreddi says... #25

iAzire wait wat, why is Sarkhan dead? Didnt he bring the dragons back and was like "damn I'm awesome"?

September 7, 2016 4:04 a.m.

Aztraeuz says... #26

I know in the new timeline he was never born. If he is still alive then it is only his old timeline self. I thought Nicol Bolas killed him for his betrayal though? I could be wrong. Didn't Sarkhan also go mad? I'm actually fairly lost on his lore because at this point in time, he was never born and he went mad. Did Nicol Bolas not kill him though? I guess that's the real question. He did betray Bolas in his actions to save Ugin and bring the Dragons back. As we see with Tezzeret, Bolas doesn't let people get away with stuff.

I'm not sure that Daretti has anything to do with the storyline either. Is he relevant to bring up?

To my knowledge, all that I can think of in colors are Sarkhan, Daretti (in CNS2), and Nicol Bolas himself. Am I missing anybody?

Even with those Walkers, only Daretti is currently . Sarkhan is always , his most recent card, if he is still alive, he is currently thus leaving the spot open for a new . He was only ever in Sarkhan the Mad.

That leaves Daretti, Ingenious Iconoclast in the colors. Considering Daretti is always focused on Artifact abilities, I believe there is an opening for a legitimate Walker.

Thoughts on this? The possibility that Sorin could come back as ? It seems to be an open position.

shinobigarth says... #27

last we heard of Sarkhan, he wasnt dead, he was in dragon heaven. his story is pretty much over now that he accomplished his dream of being surrounded by dragons 24/7. maybe Bolas kills him later, who knows.

well i dont think it would be totally unusual to see Sorin get a little red when he breaks free. that could be a ways off though unless they make freeing Sorin part of the main story.

September 7, 2016 12:14 p.m.

Aztraeuz says... #28

Well that's what I was saying. Even the last version of Sarkhan doesn't even have in it. He is .

After Kaladesh we are going to Bolas' Plane aren't we? That's why I think that Bolas might free Sorin to help him in whatever issues he will be having. Considering our seemingly free spot for a Planeswalker, I expect we will be seeing one. It might be Sorin.

It's possible non-planeswalker characters might have an interest in freeing him. If someone on the plane like Thalia learns how he created Avacyn as a way to help protect humanity, she might utilizer her abilities to free him. The question really will be who know's he's trapped, and who has any interest in seeing him freed? It's a pretty short list. Nahiri wanted him able to watch the destruction of his plane while being unable to escape it, which is why he suffered the fate he did, and Olivia seems to have zero interest in having him freed.
