Here's the link: Khanfall

And you're right, Kozelek. Tasigur does survive... as a pet, that is.

Well, at the end, Alesha and Yasova also survive, or at least we do not see them die. That seemed like a swift 180 in the story.

How could Ugin, who is encapsulated in hedrons (unbreakable by Tarkir magic standards), be doing anything to quadruple the dragon tempests?

Though this was awesomely written and I really have to commend Kelly Digges on that one, this just leaves me hungry for spoilers rather than bringing tarkir's past to a conclusion.

Boza - I don't think Ugin is causing the intensity of the tempests. The story said he fought for balance on the plane, so it's his "absence" from the world that is causing the tempests to grow.

meecht - thanks for that clarification, that does make sense. The UR this week was super long compared to previous ones and some details escaped me.

One interesting thing I noticed was that Ugin gave "concealment magic" to the clans. We knew that manifest/morph was linked to Ugin, but not that he willing provided it to the clans in order to help them fight back against the dragons.

That was a damn good read.

@meecht, I'm not sure about that. Remember, in the original timeline, Ugin died, and yet after his death, the Khans hunted the dragons to extinction. If it's his absence that's causing the storms to intensify, then surely they would have done so even more had he died?

As a being of immense power, I'm sure Ugin simply radiates magic that affects the plane, thus causing the tempests. The tempests exist because of Ugin, and, knowing that, he helps keep them under control in order to maintain balance on the plane.

In the timeline where he dies, his magical presence fades from the world and isn't strong enough to allow tempests to form.

In the new timeline, he's alive on Tarkir, but unable to keep the storms under control.

RIP Shu Yun BAMF

Though it is explicitly said that he is dead, given that none of the other 4 khans actually died, I doubt "frozen in ice" should count as dead. We will hear more of him for sure.

Shu Yun as the Avatar confirmed!

February 19, 2015 12:12 p.m.

Given that Shu Yun probably doesn't have antifreeze for blood I think it's actually very safe to say he's dead as hell. Frostbite doesn't care how much kung fu you know....

Given we're gonna be going centuries into the future it's unlikely we'll see or hear much of the former khans in Dragons of Tarkir.

It's been mentioned elsewhere but I like that the White-aligned dragons are culture-destroying, hyper-controlling jerkbags whereas the BR dragon, the colors most caring about the individual, is appropriately laissez-faire with her new clan.

There are real groups of monks that can manipulate their body temperatures. Shu Yun lives!

The bit in the story about Shu Yun hiding the scroll must have importance because too much detail went into his fight to get there. It even went so far as to actually state that he swallowed the key to the room, and he's the only one to know of the room's existence.

What's with the sudden Shu Yun love?

Either way, an interesting point to note is since the word "Khan" is banned, most clan will lose their leader and eventually submit to their dragonlord, thus the clan in DTK will most likely become the two allied color that follow their dragonlord(dunno about Mardu and Temur)

Also Atarka is kinda retarded

Yea I think Shu Yun is dead he sacrificed himself so that the rest of the humans could live, not sure what the scrolls have to do with anything yet but it is true that they made a point to point out how important they are/will be (at least in Shu Yun's mind anyway) and that he deliberately swallowed the key knowing he was about to die and take it with him to the grave. So the real question is how long will it take for ugin to fully recover and emerge from the hedron cocoon to start bringing the Dragonstorms back under control, and how does Shu Yun expect people to find the scrolls in later years when it's a hidden room with a locked door and the key is frozen in his stomach for who knows how long
