New Main Character Ideas?

So we've been stuck with the gatewatch characters since Origins, which for me has been the majority of my time playing Magic, and I think it's safe to say we're almost all tired of them and their unoriginal stories.

Now luckily, WotC has said they're dropping the gatewatch stuff in the next few sets, hopefully when we go on back to Dominaria next year. The question now is: who should replace them?

Now I know there's a lot of very cool very underused Planeswalkers just sorta drifting through the writers' void, only ever briefly breaking out for a brief cameo in the Gatewatch's misadventures(Ral Zarek, Garruk, Ob Nixilis, etc.) that we'd all like to see return, but that's a topic for another thread.

Today, I want to know what great ideas all of you have for a brand new main character(not just another one-off walker). Are they already a planeswalker or do we meet them before their spark ignites? Where do they live? Is it a new plane or somewhere we've been before? What are their colors? Their abilities? Their race? Their personality? Do they have any adventuring companions?

I'm excited to see what you all come up with!

We need a bear planeswalker. Because it is technically impossible for that kind of being to become a planeswalker, I propose a Werebear planeswalker, or the bear pictured in Savage Punch.

Also, it is never stated that Fblthp ISN'T a planeswalker... I know I might be cheating a little with him being an established character already, but that would be super entertaining

Sorry to break it to you ERoss8, but the Savage Punch bear is dead. He got hit by a poisoned Sultai arrow and Surrak Dragonclaw put him down to prevent any suffering.

Although I think a Werebear would be awesome! As a green player, I'm always happy to see more variety in green planeswalkers for both lore and gameplay reasons.

Out of curiosity, what sorts of abilities would you give this Werebear Walker on a card?

His abilities should show he exercises his right to bear arms.

Until before ixalan i had said minotaur pw. A naga walker in sultai colours a kind of anti tamiyo would be very cool. Also: sphinx please.

I vote for no one - no MC in magic stories please. If they are handled like the gatewatch, who have less of an arc and more of a flat line development, magic should not have a MC. Just do self-contained stories in each block and forget the overarching, this-is-just-a-piece-of-the-puzzle type of stories.

Or at least, have no MC that is the MC of every plane. Have stories that span multiple block but have clear third acts and even clearer endings.

Or at least, if you have the Gatewatch, aka Interplanar Justice League, have their evil counterpart and hint at a big conflict in the future.

Or at least, do not keep doing what you are doing.

I think at this point you cant get away from the cookie-cutter poster children that are the likes of Jace, Lilliana, chandra, Ajani and Garruk... i think its good to have everlasting representations of each color of mana throughout the story block however; in terms of keeping a stories fresh and exciting i can get behind what Boza said about not having Main characters that are not main charachters of every plane. Have stories that span multiple block but have clear third acts and even clearer endings..... I think Venser and Narset are good examples of this. and how they both started out as legendary creatures Venser, Shaper Savant/Narset, Enlightened Master to later become Venser, the Sojourner/Narset Transcendent.... but i also see the importance of having reoccurring main character staples Jace, Lilliana, chandra, Ajani and Garruk basically to stay grounded and have a base and a so called "Master-Storyline."

but to answer the threads question.... id like to see a planswalker and base it off of Hellspark Elemental....mana cost of starting loyalty of 3 ... +1 = create a 2/1 elemental token with haste and exile it at the end of turn....-2 = draw two cards then discard two cards...-5 = creatures in your graveyard gain Unearth until end of turn where the unearth cost is equal to their mana cost.

Probably be from Alara...and try to mimic Nicol Bolas' scheme to use the shards to enhance his own power from all the gathered mana in hope of imposing his dominance... (he'd be the bad guy)

I want a character who isn't even a planeswalker in the traditional sense. Like give me a group like the Weatherlight crew or something. Just some people who stumble onto the Blind Eternities and have to learn as they go.

Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded.

I will accept nothing less.

Give me nothing less then THE TRILOBITE! Yup, Shore Keeper demands the Planeswalker card, and none else.

+1)gut a trilobite. If you do, draw three cards.

0)Put any number of trilobites from you hand onto the battlefield.

-6)You get and emblem with 'all cards in your hands are trilobites in addition to their other types. And'Trilobites you control get +3+3 and island walk'
