Nahiri v.s. Sorin: Protégé v.s. Mentor

So, what are everyone's thoughts on Nahiri's and Sorin's battle? I thought it was a very interesting conflict in the block, to have a mentor fighting his hero of sort. Usually in the hero's journey, writers have the mentor die so the hero can live on and defeat the big bad, but things aren't so black and white in Magic. Instead, there are many shades of grey and many different opinions. Should Sorin have built the Helvault if he knew it could block messages from the Eye of Ugin? Should Nahiri have attacked Sorin so soon after confronting him? Should Sorin have trapped Nahiri in the Helvault for one thousand years to defend himself and his plane? Was it right and just of Nahiri to not only seek revenge on Sorin, but to level a whole entire world because of her harbinging? Please share your thoughts, because this is a very interesting topic with many various viewpoints.

Lol Phaetion we have different opinions on this. As you said you could see yourself as Bant in your childhood, I used to be super Esper, which felt pretty shitty trying to be perfect all of the time. Now that I'm more Jeskai, dropping the ambition of black for the freedom of red, I feel for Nahiri. My personal opinion is that Nahiri's boss and totally slayed Sorin. I think even Nahiri knew that she wouldn't be able to beat Sorin in a normal battle so she made her own rules. Bringing Emrakul to the plane was pretty awesome. I also loved how she trucked up Sorin's magic to not work and then trapped him in stone to let him watch the promised end of Innistrad that she harbinged. This win showed Nahiri's growth over time, from when Sorin imprisoned her in the Helvault. She wasn't going to let him beat her again. I want an alternate art copy of Sorin, Grim Nemesis where he is trapped in stone, partially withered away. I would legit buy that card, although I hate Orzhov. I wonder what will happen next with Nahiri.

Sorin's a looks like a jerk because he just doesn't care about much. Nahiri's just a jerk.

The way I see it Sorin damned zendikar so Nahri damned innistrad. They are both jerks in the end. Too bad this could all be avoided if instead of brushing her off Sorin asked for a few days of rest but rationality has no place in the mtg story

Sorin definitely messed up when he cut himself off from the other worlds and even moreso when he trapped Nahiri in the Helvault. She stopped the first Eldrazi recursion and wasn't there to stop the second and half of Zendikar died because of it.
She didn't even want revenge when she got out of the helvault. She was willing to let go of their past and live in peace on Zendikar until she got there and saw Ulamog destroying everything. It wasn't until she didn't have a home to go back to that she began to take revenge.
In conclusion? Sorin deserved everything he got. Destroying a plane to give it to him is a little bit more iffy, especially because it was Innistrad where no one is really innocent. Plus if you look at it in a roundabout way, Nahiri accomplished what Sorin never could: She got humans and vampires to fight side by side and start cooperating even if only marginally because of the looming threat of Emrakul. I definitely side with Nahiri on this issue.

Yeah but only part of zendikar was destroyed, and Sorin didn't know that he wouldn't get the message because of the helvualt.

I would go out of my way to stain my hands with Nahiri's blood. If you're going to get back at someone, you do not condemn an entire plane while doing so.
That said, I do not condone what Sorin did to Nahiri either. If there was better communication between the two, then all of this could've been avoided. So...
Sorin= Resolved, I guess.
Nahiri= Next time I see her, I will chop her up into 10,000 little pieces, throw them to the dogs and drop her bones in acid all the while bathing my hands in the pool of blood that's created during the process. I'm sorry to sound so morbid but I really hate Nahiri for what she did.
