In the first of a two-part Season finale, the race is on to find the Golden city as unlikely partnerships form

When Jace made the Belligerent invisible and then again for the dinghy, I had wondered if you could see the wakes or not. I'm glad to have confirmation that you can see them.

It's funny how people keep questioning Huatli on whether she saw Orazca or just any other golden city. I hope Inti doesn't fall to Vona. Jace could sense the vampire but only sensed one human (Huatli) so I hope that just means Inti and Teyeuh are out of his range.

I'm glad Kumena didn't kill Tishana. I like how Tishana is this plane's resident who knows of planeswalkers without knowing their full nature.

All i can say is i'm not really looking forward to part 2 of this segment.

Mainly because by shifting focus to so many different characters at once it really just gets kind of annoying. One of the same problems that the gatewatch stories had in my opinion.

All of the magic Story articles for Ixalan have been amazing, and this one was no exception. When Jace was sensing for lifeforms around them, we know that the Human and Merfolk were Huatli and Tishana. We know the Minotaur is Angrath. Who's the vampire? And tbh, not sure what the whole Mavren Fein segment was about, as it doesn't link together with anything else in the story.

Also, i like how they tie together all the stories so nicely. First we see that the Vona segment is directly after last weeks when they mention the Beligerent, and last weeks ended with Vraska yelling abandon ship at the same time. Then we see that in "The Shapers" the ships Tishana had created a storm to stop were in fact Vonas and the Belligerent. Then, immediately after being told that a merfolk and human are following them, we see Huatli and Tishana meeting eachother.

Im appreciating the suspense that is building this season. Im sure next week well meet Angrath and figure out how Mavren Fein fits into the story. They have Kopala and Kumena to bring back into the fold, and to see what impact Vona has, if any.

It has been quite some time since this game had so many great stories in consecutive weeks, but I am enjoying the current story very much.

Since every faction and every charterer is seeking Orazca and the Immortal Sun, I am expecting an awesome battle to occur once they reach it, or at least something very dramatic. I do hope that Huatli is able to ally herself with Jace and Vraska, since she seems to be a decent person and there is no reason for them to be hostile toward each other. I currently seems that the major antagonists of this block are Kumena, Vona, and Mavren Fein, with Angrath being a wild card.

I agree with RazortoothMtg that the scene with Mavren Fein did not fit in with the rest of the story, but it was likely setting up for his involvement, later.

This story really fell apart after the many good Ixalan ones of the past. I can't believe that after so much negative attitude towards the Gatewatch, they break it up, only to form a proxy in the unlikely group of Jace, Huatli, Vraska, and Kumena. Honestly, I think that the story writers just kept whatever Gatewatch story they had already written for the main plot and substituted in the new main characters.

Well we know that Perilous Voyage will happen next story, so all the Jace haters got that to look forward to.

pizzagod13 Except Jace isn't going to eat it at the end. What will likely happen is that Perilous Voyage, and will likely end in a cliffhanger.

This story has been handled better than most of the gatewatch stories in that each individual smash cut seemed better developed. I'm not a fan of the constant change of perspective as a theme, but I wouldn't call today's story a flop or anything. It was still well written.
My only gripe is that Huatli is still a Mary Sue. She has NO flaws, and is the only remaining main character as such.

I suspect that there may be an opportunity for Huatli to make a critical decision once Orazca has been discovered and once she has learned about being a planeswalker. Once all the cards are on the table maybe we'll see who she decides to be. Jace has been hammering home the importance of who you are being determined by your choices going forward. If helping the other planeswalkers would mean betraying Tishana, I think Huatli might choose to embrace the knew explorer in her and help them in order to be able to explore the multiverse.

She is bound by loyalty to her people and her friends. While that isn't a flaw by itself, it could be a source of conflict.

Huatli has all the makings to be a tragic character, her hubris could be her downfall. If, in that moment of trial she makes the right decision then Ill buy the Mary Sue argument, but I feel like she is being built up for a far fall.

I doubt Jace will eat it ether, he is MTG's poster child after all! I just hope that we get some more from Angrath which seems possible since he is nearby
