In today's story, Haptara sees too late what the God Pharaoh's promise was, as two more Gods bite the dust

There are tears in my eyes; Oketra's sacrifice and Kefnet's death were so heartbreaking and chilling. I liked Hapatra's character development and seeing how a GB character can still be selfless, brave, and intelligent.

So three things I think this story is suggesting:

1). Were gonna get one more legendary this set, either Hapatra or Yuta (Hapatra's basilisk). Generally blocks have somewhere between 14-20 legendaries, and both seem to be powerful characters in the story that could potentially save the day for a god.

2). Nicol Bolas is going to be defeated in the final moments, as told by how Hapatra acts towards Gideon and eggs him on. This is probably going to lead to Gideon fighting Bolas and possibly dying while sacrificing himself.

3) At least one God and potentially a chunk of Amonkhets population will live. Specifically since now we see that the populace is becoming wise to Bolas' plan and that the Gods/people are being defended by Hapatra, Yuta and the gang. It's probably going to be Hazoret, since a) we've already seen Bontu's Last Reckoning and b) Hazoret is one of the key gods for the story.

Also, a small possibility, but perhaps there is a chance that Hapatra becomes a Planeswalker villain who tries to kill Planeswalkers after seeing how her plane was nearly destroyed by them. Kinda like Nahiri.

dbpunk A Tuya legendary creature WOULD be boss. I wish Oketra was the god to survive...but Hazoret will be okay, despite the similarity to red surviving on New Phyrexia to now possibly on Amonkhet. Maybe Nissa will stay on the plane to help regrow like some of the spoiled green creatures have in flavor text that Nissa gave them advice or whatever. Hapatra turning into a planeswalker sounds interesting, although it may be more likely she gets another legendary creature card with Tuya. It remains to be seen if Nahiri is going to go terrorize other planeswalkers; it seems like she really only has beef with Ugin now (with Sorin defeated and Ob Nixilis missing).

Nahiri was a villain in SOI block so that's why I mentioned her. Also, I agree a Tuya legend will be boss. We already know the Gatewatch will be disbanded soon so there could definitely be the possibility of Nissa staying behind to heal the plane. We also know that Jace is probably gonna get sent to Ixalan (since he gets a card in the next set with the phrase castaway on it).

However, Liliana, Chandra and Gideons fate seems like the ones with most possibilities. We know Liliana has one more demon to hunt, Gideon can lose his indestructibility and that Chandra basically has multiple retirement options now. We also know that A) Planeswalkers could lose sparks and that B) planar portals are possible again. So any number of things could happen after this.

dbpunk: But the Gatewatch was defeated by Bolas, shown by the Defeat cycle.

Oh, and there's this from the artbook...(SPOILERS!) Show

Oketra's death was the one that should hit the hardest, because she was central to the plot. The oversized art for Solemnity doesn't help.

Phaetion Do you have the artbook?

Ok so they escape (kinda foreshadowed by how Hapatra told them they must leave) and Bolas' plans almost come to fruition then?

Seems like a good idea as a set up for other sets in the future (like maybe 1 Gatewatch member per set from now on?)

AgentGreen,
Couldn't remember if that was you or someone else.

Was it you who had a hard time making links on mobile? If so yeah, I recall the conversation now. That's actually why I've started pointing out the URL/link button to folks.

Red is the dead color on New Phyrexia. (Well, Urabrask, anyway.) That's why Atraxa, Praetors' Voice is all-but-red.

On New Phyrexia, white is the dominant color. If anything it would be less interesting for Oketra to be the sole survivor for this reason.

kanokarob True, I was just referencing how the Mirran resistance's, or what's left of it, is predominantly red, with Koth and all. On New Phyrexia, red is the "dead" color, but I meant that analogy as in the last survivor of the plane as it was before (Phyrexia or Bolas), although it seems the Mirran resistance has had less luck than Hazoret because of Atraxa and the flavor text of the Conspiracy 2 Phyrexian Arena.

Tbh, I wish Oketra survived, even though it would be more boring and predictable. Hazoret is my favorite god second to Oketra.

They're not going to kill Bolas -- not permanently, anyway -- ever.

He's too old and too much of a fan favorite. Much like how the Eldrazi aren't truly gone; they can let Emrakul out at any time, and after that, they've never confirmed nor denied the possibility of more Titans elsewhere in the Eternities.

If he ever is defeated in a manner that's more than just "this plan failed but I have plans B through H in progress already so it's fine," it will be temporary. It's happened before.

I however am also disappointed that they all escape alive. Though they are almost certainly not unscathed. We already know Jace is becoming unhinged which a mental defeat to Bolas can only worsen, and its possible Gideon's indestructibility will become much less effective, if even present at all, following their escape. It's too early to determine whether the consequences of their hasty excursion were too small.

I would be very content if Gideon died.

He's been OK to watch for a while, but I find him a bit one note.

Of course Hazoret survives. is the best!
