Least Favorite Planeswalker Lore WIse?

Mine is Nissa, she's green(I hate green), and a racist, supremacist who believes elves should be the absolute rulers of the planes(even though they don't exist on all of the planes).

The answer to least favorite planeswalker is always Tibalt

Flavor-wise Tibalt is scary. His card doesn't do him justice.

I was not a huge fan of Tamiyo, the Moon Sage in lore. She really doesn't do much

Honestly, Nissa to mecould be one of the better planeswalkers. Hear me out.

Her lore has been updated a bit and she is showing some tremendous character development. I also originally hated Niisa because she was a racist c***; however, the potential character development is too hard to ignore.

Lore wise for me it goes to Ral Zarek . So utterly petty and obnoxious he kills his own fellow guild mate to run the maze. He's a twat, plain and simple. He gets all upset when nivvy doesn't just give him his way.

Lore-wise, I have to go with Ral Zarek (for the reasons Ultimaodin described) or Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded . Neither contributes anything meaningful to the storyline, and they just seem like out-of-place and terrible beings.

That said, Ral Zarek the card is awesome.

Ral Zarek feels like a waste of a spark. Even though he can travel planes, not only does he stay on his, but is still caught up in his guild. That's like Edwards & Blooms Business' best accountant finding a tardis, and only using it to be mad cause he didn't get a promotion. But I can kind of see from Wizards view, they already had Vraska who was part of a guild, but not really, more using them as minions, so they really needed a more Guild centered one. They just didnt have to make him such a bitch about it.

I'm not a big fan of Ashiok either, but I could see him being more interesting as his story unfolds more, maybe.

Ultimaodin says... #8

Ashiok's personality seems a little... effed up. Really no kind way to put it. I feel like Ashiok traveling the verse would be an incredibly bad thing. Sadly Ashiok is still pretty clouded in unknown. He's pretty much responsible for Xenagos achieving his god rank and generally effing with the plane. His only reason was effectively the joy of nightmarish torture. I can't recall but did Wizards actually give us Ahiok's origin story?

August 30, 2014 11:13 a.m.

Rejex says... #9

Part of Ashiok's story is he is unknown; his colors are the ones of secrecy, manipulation and conspiracy. It makes sense that he caused the Xenagos debacle on Theros. Because of his nightmare manipulation, his personality and face have been eroded away, taking away his humanity.

August 30, 2014 12:44 p.m.

I personally really really like Ashiok, first gender-neutral planeswalker thus far. Normally I dislike villains but OHHH MY GOOODD Ashiok's such a smooth operator, playing the God of Deception like a fiddle. I could only like Ash more if they where chaotic neutral or be a sometimes heroic character.

I have to say Ral, he's a whiny shitty pissbaby. his ONLY redeeming qualities are his love of lightning and that he's voiced by BROSUKE HANAMURA (Yuri Lowenthal for those unfamiliar with the Persona series)

I also don't really care about Tezz or Dack, I don't really have any walkers I actively /hate/

Ashiok's a guy. It was stated on the wiki(MTGsalvation)

August 31, 2014 12:40 p.m.

KrosanTusker says... #12

Can we have a link for that? I believe Ashiok is gender-neutral. If they referred to Ashiok as "he," it'll be because English doesn't have a neutral personal pronoun and it's a pain to type "Ashiok" every time you want to refer to Ashiok. On their respective tumblrs, Mark and Doug both refer to Ashiok always as "Ashiok," never "he" or "she."

I have to go with Chandra. She's just to . She always just does what she wants and never thinks twice about anything. I hate people like this in real life as well as in books, movies etc.

KrosanTusker says... #15

I dislike Dack. He's billed as "the greatest thief in the multiverse," which is way too cheesy for my liking. I'm not sure what his usefulness is outside of the comic books (which I can't bring myself to read).

I also dislike Tibalt. He's a sadistic little bugger, isn't he? It's hard to feel affection for someone whose favourite hobby is torture.

GoldGhost012 thank you for that evidence I was not aware of. Well I think that ashiok was something once, but was eroded away from his self damaging past time.

Jace, by far. He's had some really good cards and is arguably the most powerful planeswalker put on paper in terms of how good each one is. But his story just sucks.

He's such a generic white, male, 20-something protagonist we see in every video game. His personality just isn't interesting, then he's seduced by Liliana Vess , despite being a knowledge-seeking, blue planeswalker who supposedly can read minds.

After being involved in so many of MtG's storylines, you'd think WotC would come up with something better than a glorified Prodigal Sorcerer . But no. Jace Beleren is a vanilla protagonist. He's bland. He has no niche. His lore sucks. He has no flavor. No moral conflicts. He's just a generic hero to be used when there needs to be a generic hero to tie a story to the cards.

September 2, 2014 11:55 p.m.

Jace isn't that smart for someone who's the most powerful Planeswalker in the multiverse. On a slightly different note, am I the only one who enjoyed reading Domri Rade 's backstory?

September 13, 2014 11:11 a.m.

KrosanTusker says... #19

Jace is no way the most powerful. I rank them like this:

Bolas (obv)
Karn
Sorin
Liliana
Garruk
Then perhaps Jace.

Jace is actually one of my favorite planeswalkers.

I really dislike Jace by the same reasons sylvannos does. He appears to often for such a boring guy I think.

The Planeswalkers I really like are Venser and Teferi, as they are (or were) of a good human nature.

Actually I have to say that I most liked the times were there were no Planeswalkers involved like in the old Ravnica.

September 30, 2014 6:36 a.m.

KrosanTusker says... #22

I'm afraid we'll keep seeing Jace because he is their most popular planeswalker.
There is a subset that really hates him but the majority (especially the less enfranchised players, who are less likely to be on sites like this) like him.

I have to agree with you about Nissa there. I really dislike her.

I dislike quite a few of the planeswalkers, actually.

Chandra is bland, boring, and generic.Tibalt is a massive jerk.Ashiok is there for the sake of flavour and being a card rather than actually having anything to do with the plot.

GenesisWave says... #25

Least favorite planeswalker in terms of lore...probably Tamiyo, if only because she really hasn't contributed anything to the larger story as a whole, but I don't see anything inherently wrong with her being a transient observer, a...watcher of the multiverse, if one will.

I will agree with aforementioned posts about Tibalt, though, in that his card doesn't do his back story any justice. Tibalt is violent and it would be interesting to see a card that plays to his masochism more.

JRaynor says... #26

I just don't know anything about Tamiyo, the Moon Sage . She does't really seem to have a place.

I can understand why people wouldn't really care for Chandra. She seems to be a really one dimensional planeswalker and even as a pretty big Red player I can't say I particularly like any of her planeswalker cards. That being said, I do feel like she works fairly well Thematically as the token red planeswalker.

Tibalt

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker Everyone seem's to love him, however he just never grew on me in my personal opinion of course he was basically killed on Madara then he killed Ugin Tomb of the Spirit Dragon forced Tezzeret to do his bidding and basically just giving Chandra and Jace and even Sarkahn something to do throughout all of this lore. In my opinion I just dislike him because he basically just exemplify's that hes invincible and I don't really like that especially with the huge speculation that he will be back in Khan's granted he plays a huge part in the lore I just feel like he doesn't need to be so powerful I guess XD

October 18, 2014 12:52 a.m.

KrosanTusker says... #29

Minor quibble: He's not invincible; Ajani beat him.

I like Bolas, in the same way I like the Phyrexians, not only because they're interesting characters (which they are) but because they can really create a sense of menace in the stories. Because Bolas is as close to omnipotent as one can be in the multiverse, it rather stacks the odds against the heroes, which can lead to great storytelling. Of course, the flipside is that if the hero faces insurmountable odds every single block, it becomes cliche, but Magic has been pretty good at avoiding this.

Also, he's a great big dragon so that's a good thing.
