Ive been playing magic since last year i believe. And i was noticing that alot of people comment on some of the lands i have. To me theres nothing big on them that would point out to something even bigger but then again i am just a well trained rookie. So i was wondering are there any lands with social or game related significance?

Like those Swamp with Emrakul on them? Otherwise, I'm with FAMOUSWATERMELON.

Full art basics such as those from Zendikar are often coveted and used to "pimp out" decks. Some people like to collect full panoramic sets, where the art lines up to create a larger landscape. Some people have sentimental attachment to certain lands, or like art from particular printings (I, for example, like the Kamigawa mountains quite a lot).
It's possible you have any of the above and people with the relevant interest commented.

People often like to pick various art lands as a form of self expression in Magic. Me? I'm APAC or foil MPS or gtfo because screw paying for Guru lands.

Having your basic lands coming from a certain set is important to some players. Maybe they really like that specific set and all the cool artwork, or they have good memories of it.
Basically if you are using mismatching basics from recent sets, or basics with white borders/bad art, some people won't like it.

I intentionally run two different art Ponders just to mess with other Legacy players.

Yea, some people(mainly higher level players) maintain that having the lands all be the same artwork will help to not tip people off to what you drew in cases where they see your hand too. I have all my lands in my competitive decks the same artwork: foil plains from invasion, islands and forest from Mercadian Masques, and forests and swamps from Odyssey. I just enjoy the artwork from back then more than the newer lands.

Yeah like they ve even told me some of the art work for lands i have become more significant later in the game. Like some basic swamp i have from m15 surprised one of my friends and said that was the winning land from some later set. I was like wtf lol dude we re barely in dragons.

Damn, your friend might lowkey be a magic pro or have insider information, not many people (even long time magic nerds) don't even know which lands the winning lands are, especially from unreleased sets.

And please explain to me what a winning basic land is.

Sounds like your asking why basic land art Matters to people? I think that's been answered. Just adds personality to your deck.
I go a step further than most i guess.
I only put foil lands and significant spells in my decks.
My basics go
Modern : swamp: premium graveborn/ plains: premium slivers/ mountain: premium fire and lightning
Edh: zendikar fullarts. I only use one art of each though. This is for practical reasons of not giving my opponent extra info when i reveal my hand

"Presumably into the middle of the ocean." Lost it right there.
I don't really get this question, but I'll just go along with the others. I prefer my lands to match. I have all my basics as full art Zendikar lands in one EDH deck, all Unglued in another EDH deck, and 4 Unhinged in a modern deck. I feel like it's best to have matching lands in a competitive environment, so the opponent can't keep track of what's in your hand as easily. I tend to take note of differing sets/art when I play Thoughtseize and friends.

I once lost to Dredge with two Forests in play. Zaaaambiiieeeeees! They ran through my trees.
I play with an older playgroup that favors basics from Alpha, Beta, Zendikar full art lands, foil Ravnika and SOM. They're pretty.
I don't get why people like Snow-Covered basics, aside from Scrying Sheets and mayhap Into the North. Decks that don't run those cards use Snow-Covered lands.

If it was some sort of vision of the past before Tolarian Academy was there. :P Otherwise.. Its an Island the most powerful land in the game, but no more than.

I like multiple art lands in my decks. I've noticed that people who like matching lands (at least in my circles) get frustrated just looking at my mana base

if I'm not mistaken, I believe Meta is referring to art in the basic lands of a set that hint at events that are happening in the timeline of that plane, or possibly future events within either that plane or other planes.

like the Eldrazi showing up in Zendikar block basics or the RtR basics showing part of the Maze. idk, I was just taking a stab at it.

Strategically, the basic have the advantage of hitting the feild untapped with no drawbacks. They also are required for certain abilities, like Mutilate or Arbor Elf. Socially, it depends on the art or style of the card to have any special value, though they are an Integral part of magic the gathering and have the unique ability to fit more than four into a deck. I hope this is what you were looking for

VampireArmy how do different arts keep them from getting extra info by looking at your hand?
May 18, 2015 1:25 p.m.
andymaul123 says... #30
ThisIsBullshit A scenario can happen in which they look at your hand and see Forest A. You draw Forest B (different art) and play it. The opponent, if paying attention, now knows 1. that you drew Forest B (since it wasn't there when they looked), and that 2. you still have Forest A in your hand.

Time Spiral, Portal, 10E-M12, Odyssey, and Kamigawa have the best basic art IMO. That being said, I'm very particular about my basics.
I DO NOT use more than one copy of each art in a deck. I ONLY use art that depicts a setting similar to the theme of the deck. For example, a mono tron build will have a lot of Ravnica/RTR islands, because those depict industry and technology. Mirrodin is also acceptable for tron.

andymaul123 isn't that a bad thing? Why would you want them to know what you just drew and played?
May 18, 2015 5:59 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #34
You don't. That's why you use only one art. Same goes for spells too.

Ohhhh I misread what you said. I thought you said you only use one of each art, not one art of each.
I feel dumb lol

Also I want to point out that IndepenentMeta actually made a really good point. The time spiral basics are kickass. Especially the swamp and island.

Unglued and Unhinged are joke sets. They have silver borders and the cards (other than the basic lands) are illegal in every format but casual. Also the basics are full art and look gorgeous.
