Sultai has me feeling down for pre-release

Has anybody else got that feeling like..... damn, Sultai is going to be such a let down for limited & pre-release?

Each other clan has a mechanic that can just simply be played without effort. You need a whole slew of cards in your deck to support delve. How do you feel about drawing a 10 mana cost card with delve in your 40 card deck? More than likely you're dead before you have enough actual cards in the graveyard to effectively cast it, or you're playing cards that pitch your library into the grave.....but you have a 40 card deck.....is it worth it to play a spell that throws 1/6th of your deck away to cast a single card?

Im so upset honestly, I want delve to be a good choice at pre-release. I want to pick it without feeling like i'm in the wrong. Does anybody else feel this way?

Or could somebody please point out some cards from Khans (not theros or M15) that seem to effectively support my favorite color combo?

Delve is actually inherently bad with other delve cards. If your exiling cards with delve to cast one spell then you have fewer cards to exile for the next delve spell. If your going to use any of the delve cards you want to make sure it has a really strong ability (like Empty the Pits but thats got a tough 4 black restriction) and you will only need a few enablers that help you cast that card. This way you can afford to cast that 10 mana cost card and the other cards in your deck because they won't all be eating things out of your graveyard. Delve cards aren't bad in a 40 card deck, just a 40 card deck full of really expensive delve cards is bad. Remember, with that 10 mana spell, if you got 5 or 6 lands on board you only need to exile 4 or 5 cards. A delve card built for the late game doesn't need to dump your library into your graveyard just to be effective. The exile just helps make the cost more affordable by removing cards in your graveyard that you've already used giving you extra value from something that you normally wouldn't get any from.

I love Sultai and think delve is an great mechanic despite not working well with other delve cards, all the other clans have mediocre mechanics: Abzan's mechanic is SUPER slow and mana hungry even late game you might only get to outlast a few times per turn, Jeskai's mechanic requires you to have a lot of noncreature spells and at common/uncommon there aren't many great noncreature spells except the charms, Mardu's mechanic is really easy to trigger but the cards with it aren't that great and Temur's mechanic is really only effective late game and the cards aren't amazing. Sultai has cards like Hooting Mandrills , Sultai Scavenger and Set Adrift all of which are quite powerful cards. We also have plenty of ways to fill the graveyard at low costs and rarities such as Taigam's Scheming, Scout the Borders and Sultai Soothsayer. Almost all of the creatures in Sultai are solid on their own, whereas many of the other clans creatures rely on support from their mechanic. Remember that you can still pay mana later to pay delve costs and because we have very little use for the cards in our graveyard otherwise we can gladly remove them to pay delve costs. Yes there are very expensive delve cards but you will ofter only need to reduce the cost by 3 or 4 mana. Consider the following T1 - Land, T2 - Land, Taigam's Scheming mill 5, T3 - Land, Hooting Mandrills , Molting-Snakeskin now you have a 6/4 trampling regenerator on turn 3. So as long as you don't fill your deck with something like 17 delve cards you should be fine.

Srry for not linking most of the cards, many haven't been added to the site yet.

Sets aren't about mechanics much anyway. Look at scavenge, look at detain etc.

They're about how you can combine these mechanics to make a fluid consistent deck

In my opinion, Delve doesnt give a hoot about Sultai, it goes in any clan that can utilize its cards. its enablers are mostly cards that help with card advantage, knowing what you draw and such. All playable cards are playable in most decks that make sense to have them. I feel it is not meant to be played as an archetype in limited, but rather a way to get some good spells for cheap occasionally

Look Black is my Favorite color and I try to get over the fact the the Clan that has black as its Main, the clan is awful with a old mechanic being brought back to it and it being the least requested prerelease pack. In addition Sulati is simply bad because of their mechanic Jeskai Relies on their Mechanic, Abzan Realies on Outlast Mardu, Temur their's is just a bonus but Delve is pointless with any deck I mean Seriously?!? 9 and a black mana target player sacs 2 creatures, Thats wayyy too late game to get that many cards in your graveyard and its only TWO creatures plenty of more effective way's in other clans to kill things. Seriously though just choose a new clan think of Khans as Mardu, Jeskai, Abzan, Temur, and worthless poorly designed trash.

The correct way to play Sultai in limited is to go over 40 cards in your deck, and to trade, mill, draw, and delve as ruthlessly as the clan would.

Update! I played Sultai and did very well. It is far easier to delve for cards and get your graveyard full of unwanted goodies to kill your opponent. I came in a respectable 7th place. I was sitting in 2nd for all games up until the last one. Apparently my previous opponents played horribly and everybody else just behind me played very well and my rank shifted a good bit.

I would like to apologize to Mark Rosewater for telling him I thought delve sucked lol.
