Prerelease Preparation

Limited forum

Okay, here we go again- How have you all prepared for the Journey Into Nyx Prerelease? What colors are you planning to run? What is your target win/loss ratio? How have you done in the past? Do you think you have a chance to win prizes? What combos (if any) are you looking to pull? Also, for anyone who has already been to one, please please please say any colors or combos that have been winning tons of games!!! These are just some questions you can answer- you don't have to answer them all.

I'll start: I have been trying to memorize almost every card in the set (and failing), and I have practiced tons of times on this simulator. So far, I think I'm gonna go with either Green or White, just cuz I always go with Red or Black and Blue seems a bit weak in limited right now. My dream deck would be something like selesnya heroes feat. Ajani, Mentor of Heroes , splashing black for Athreos, God of Passage . We can dream, right?

tl;dr: Tell us what you have been doing/ did in preparation for this prerelease.

I just go in and play. RTR I ran Selesnya and took third, aftering being knocked down in the playoff by what was supposed to be an Izzet deck, but ended up be a full blown Azorius deck instead. Fella got some stupid pulls.

Gatecrash I went Dimir first pre-release, took first thanks to the rapeage that was Abberation and Sepulchral Primordial. Later that night I went Simic cause that's my guild. It wasn't much of a deck, I didn't get jack in the way of simic, I had to cheese my wins with a lot of enchantments on a single creature and swing. Somehow got fourth in that one, losing to a Boros deck.

I haven't been to a pre-release since then :)

i am going, but not really going to care what happens. prereleases are usually pretty casual, so I dont much care and enjoy opening the new cards and seeing what I can do with them. I reccomend that. I never really do well as I am an awful limited player but alas, whatever.

Yeah, have Blue and White reserved, though i really want that green promo, it's sexy. I love Limited formats, just life sucks sometimes.

White seems the strongest. In terms of promos too, it has the best one for limited.

I've done alright at prerelease events. Born of the Gods was my best with me getting fourth with a Boros build the first 3 rounds then it turns into a Gruul build the last two. Didn't get crap for my pulls and down pretty well with it. Only other time I done well was RTR. Went 4-1 with rakdos. Got beat in final round to another rakdos deck. I only think I done well was thanks to Desecration Demon as it was my only good pull.

White is my color of choice for Nyx. It seems to be the strongest and has the best promo personally. If I do well that's great, but if I don't do well then oh well at least I had fun. Prereleases are fairly laid back at my LGS anyways.

I have done very well limited events such as prereleases and drafts. Born of the gods I went 5-1, beat the only guy that was 5-0 in round 6, but due to tiebreakers he got 1st and I got 2nd. Overall I would say white is the most dominant color, and the promo is by far the best of the 5. The reason white is the best in this prerelease is due to the commons. Wingsteed rider in particular comes to mind, god's willing is also good. In born of the gods I ran W/u fliers as there are plenty in those colors, gaining a lifelink flier as the promo with a heroic trigger is a nice start. With white you could also look to run W/r and go for an aggro build, W/g runs more midrange with lots of combat tricks. Obviously it depends on what you pull, however in my opinion evasiveness from fliers is more valuable in limited events than a nice midrange creature, in the end fliers beat someone to the race. You can always chump block a big creature assuming it doesn't have trample, if a flier is left alone, especially if it gets bigger off of combat tricks and heroic abilities will win a game.

Journey Into Nyx Pre-Release Plan

I made a long long long thread about some of these.

There are a few mistakes in there but meh.
