Modern Masters 2015 Sealed Pool Analysis (GP Vegas Prep)

Limited forum

Howdy Folks,

Until Wednesday I'll be cracking a few sealed pools as part of my prep for GP Vegas to see what I can build out of it, analyze the pool in depth, and do play-testing with some friends. I am /very/ open to suggestions or criticisms, as I want to gain as much wisdom about this set/format as I can prior to the GP next week. I cracked my first test pool tonight: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/mm2015-test-sealed-pool-1/

Red was really strong, as was White, but my removal in Black and the Affinity synergy between my Colorless and Blue was too strong to ignore. From my draft experience on Friday and just reviewing the set and this first pool I'm already getting the sense that in Limited play, that synergy is your priority not just power cards. I'd love to hear what the community thinks.

Thanks.

The power cards aren't really playable in many situations. I did a draft with some friends and the one guy that pulled Splinter Twin and Karn Liberated didn't do much because he either died before he got Karn out and couldn't make much use of the copies. However, one guy pulled a Bob and had a very low to the ground deck and managed to make good use of him. Passing a mythic might suck but it's definitely worth it if you're already decided on a deck and it's the third pack. The situation is obviously going to be different in sealed but I think the same philosophy that you touched upon holds - to use cards that make your deck better, not just make you look cool.

I'd love to see any other members of community who are doing prep share their sealed pools as well. The more data we can collect as a community, the better we'll all hopefully do at GP. I'm planning to open the other two boxes with a group on Tuesday and then record all the sealed pools. I'll be headed out Wednesday to do 2 days of Sealed before the main event.

In my sealed i played blue artifact with green for titan.the deck was very slow but strong in the grind matches.titan put int serious work when i got it out.but i folded to all the fast decks due lack of removal.had i pulled a remand and a few vapor snags maybe i would have dont better

I kind of gave up on recording every pool/deck since we went through a lot. Ended up burning through 3 boxes basically among a group of 8, and also doing repacks to build new pools. It seems that a few archetypes in particular are relatively strong, because synergy is just so important in this format. They are:

U/W Artifacts/Affinity
5 Color Affinity/Domain
B/R Bloodthirst
G/U Graft/Proliferate

Beyond that, most of the value/money cards don't really come into play very well in this Limited format. For the purpose of sealed, great you got some value. For the purposes of draft, unless you're just going for the value you should probably skip on a lot of the splashy cards and focus heavily on building synergy around a common theme.
