What do I pitch to Force of Will?

Just asking to get a better grasp of Force of Will strategy. For example, what cards in general are good or bad to pitch? Cards like other counterspells, or blue creatures like Vendilion Clique and Snapcaster Mage, or Brainstorms? Obviously I pitch the thing that is least relevant, but is there any rule which I can apply to most situations that tells me what is generally best to pitch?

You pitch whatever card in your hand is least relevant to the current game. It will vary game to game based on what you're playing, and what the situation is. There really isn't a catch all rule to follow. If there was a card in your deck just there to pitch to FOW, it wouldn't have the spot in your deck to begin with. You just have to make a judgment call on which card you can most afford to lose.

As kmcree said, it varies. In general, I'd try to avoid pitching Brainstorms, but it all depends on what you have in your hand/what you're countering. You may want to pitch your Jace, the Mind Sculptor if it looks like getting him out won't be relevant. You may want to pitch the second Force of Will in your hand, if your other blue cards are all action and you know your opponent is out of gas.

a portion depends on the deck you run. Like kmcree said, their is no hard and fast rule on what you pitch, it all depends on the current situation. In Miracles for example, more relevant targets would be extra Counterbalance, any JTMS that isn't on the field, and sometimes, you just gotta pitch Force of Will.

OK thanks.

There isn't a general rule. You need to evaluate what each card is doing for you, and whether or not it is more useful than the other blue card you have. This requires your own thought, and there really is no rule other than "Pitch the worst card in your hand".

Or Misthollow Griffin.

What Legacy deck runs Misthollow Griffin though?

That was a joke. However, Food Chain generally plays a few.

Oh yeah Food Chain. I keep forgetting that card exists. I need one for my Prossh EDH deck too.

Anything that you need to in order to not lose the game. The basic rule is that you pitch whatever still allows your to have a backup counterspell. (I.E. don't pitch Daze instead of your second Force of Will if you don't have a way to cast the second one FoW).

Not if Daze is more irrelevant (as it frequently is). You'll draw another blue card.
