The End of dedge?

So I was looking at M15's goodies and I saw Profane Memento and I realized how bad it would be for legacys dredge deck. think people will be packing it as SB hate?

Maybe, but it's not the end of dredge.

Rest in Peace is much better against dredge.

Honestly doubt it, but I do believe it will see field testing before being discarded. Because all dredge has to do is cast its 4th dread return (1 being to mill out, 2 for the souls fire on a stick and now 2 gravetrolls to finish instead of one)

I thought maybe the turn 1 vs turn 2 would matter being that it IS legacy

You can fire off the crypt once but that doesn't stop them at all

That card is awful against Dredge lol. It actually does nothing. Dredge makes a bunch of zombies/a big guy. So maybe you add a turn to their clock while they keep killing you?

July 16, 2014 3:40 a.m.

@TurboFagoot

...

That does everything against dredge. Legacy dredge is entirely reliant on Dread Return to reanimate Flayer of the Hatebound /something that gives creatures haste and then Golgari Grave-Troll .

Yes. You survive their first attack. You then die to the second. You're only prolonging the game rather than attacking their actual gameplan. Not to mention Dredge has been played in the face of such egregious cards like Rest in Peace or Grafdigger's Cage. They are well prepared to deal with artifacts or enchantments.

For reference, their answer to troublesome artifacts is Nature's Claim, because your life total just does not matter.

All dredge would have to do is res a second grave troll after flayer of the hate bound, the game is delayed by seconds at best as a few dredge lists run 4x of the chancellor, so your initial spell costs more to cast you may not even get it on the field. (We're talking about the manaless dredge that only loses to sideboard and wins t2-4 right?)

@TurboFagoot

Ah, you're right. I haven't seen that the more recent Landless Dredge lists are back to running Bridge from Below , which plays around most hate pretty efficiently; some are running Dryad Arbor plus Nature's Claim in the sideboard for added insurance, but not all. Oh, and for the record, I was talking about Grafdigger's Cage , not Tormod's Crypt , I thought you were talking about it too, that was just my bad.

Now I'm curious though, I'm not seeing as many lists running Lion's Eye Diamond as there used to, do you know why that's no longer as popular?

CrazyLittleGuy

Something to with it being a cheap and good legacy deck without it. Basically to enable running the deck at 250-350$ instead of almost a grand.

July 16, 2014 5:08 a.m.

@krassmcwriter

Yep, that would do it. Upon looking a little closer, I'm seeing that almost every Dredge deck on MTGO has it, where it's only paper versions that are running it sine Lion's Eye Diamond . Thanks for explaining; I shouldn't post at 4am after drinking, I start failing to notice obvious things, lol.

If profane memento was going to be a threat to dredge, we would just use our nature's claims/chain of vapors :pBut personally i am more worried about dealing with rest in peace and leyline of the void.
