MUD Utility

Deck Help forum

I run 12 Post MUD in legacy and I have a question. I have 2 flex slots currently occupied by Staff of Domination and Spine of Ish Sah and I was thinking is this a good choice or is 2x Staff of Nin better? I like the utility and combo that go with Domination and the tutorable permanent killing of Spine but the pinging of players and small creatures accompanied by card draw from Nin is very appealing. Any help is appreciated.

I'll submit that your current set up is better than the Staff of Nin package.

I'd honestly cut a Steel Hellkite for a Staff of Nin. Staff of Domination and Spine of Ish Sah are pretty important, while Steel Hellkite is really only good for dealing with True-Name Nemesis.

Staff of Nin draws you cards (in a deck that doesn't draw a lot of cards), kills Young Pyromancers, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, and Dark Confidants. It also makes all of your Metalworkers kind of scary since now they can trade with 2 toughness creatures.

2 seems like a bit much, however. I haven't found another card I'd want to cut for a second one in my list.

P.S. Cut Lightning Greaves from your list and try Mind Stones for a while. They drastically cut down on mulligans and make your mana more consistent. They're also a better late-game card because you can cantrip. If your opponent has the Swords to Plowshares, they have the Swords to Plowshares and will just kill your guy in response to the equipment. The only reason to really play the card is in the event you get the absolute nut draw for turn two Blightsteel Colossus, but at that point, it's pretty win-more.
