Well here's hoping this gets some activity.

May 6, 2015 9:50 p.m.

O bb. Somewhere I can post somewhat useless Legacy things.

AND BY THAT I MEAN REANIMATOR MASTER RACE

May 6, 2015 9:52 p.m.

Let's get this party started. From December's SCG Washington. Brood Awakenings with Greg Hatch!

I actually have this proxied and it's fun as balls to play.

May 6, 2015 9:54 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #7

Is that a variation of eggs?

May 6, 2015 9:56 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #8

I saw that deck tech! Yea, it looks super fun. I just proxied up Titan Bloom like ten minutes ago, might as well proxy this up as well while i'm at it.

May 6, 2015 9:57 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #9

It looks super complicated though, like worse than a storm list but with no auto win payout.

May 6, 2015 9:58 p.m.

EndStepTop says... #10

Yea but it's fun, like putting Grislebud in your miracles SB for omnitell fun.

May 6, 2015 9:59 p.m.

I have been known to play a Griselbrand in my sideboard in Legacy and Modern just to flash people when I am sideboarding.

Still have no real empirical data on it... but I do notice a lot less Show and Tells games two and three.

May 6, 2015 10:18 p.m.

EndStepTop says... #12

This is the 3rd time I've been hinted it's not a dumb idea, I may just do it at fnm for the hell of it.

May 6, 2015 10:19 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #13

...I just stick a Worldspine Wurm in my sideboard for that matchup. Nice Emrakool man, too bad I get to attack with mine first.

May 6, 2015 10:23 p.m.

Fun decks are always interesting in legacy that's why decks like Food Chain exist. Also glad to see a discussion thread for legacy.

May 6, 2015 10:23 p.m.

klone13 says... #15

How is legacy lands doing?

Have my own list (not a shameless deck plug at all). I just wanna know how its doing meta wise since I don't really pay attention to the meta. Also any help there would be awesome.

On the topic of Food Chain. I don't understand how that combo is competitively viable.

May 6, 2015 10:29 p.m.

@kyuuri117, technically Emrakul gets to attack first as the person playing emrakul gets an extra turn to attack.

May 6, 2015 10:33 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #17

Food Chain basically runs half of Shardless Bug's list but with a combo.

And lands seems to be pretty popular these days. I've seen a lot of it around. A lot of different variants of it too.

May 6, 2015 10:34 p.m.

EndStepTop says... #18

Food chain lists I've seen play a midrange game and plop the combo when it's convenient. Using food chain to ramp them off in needed creatures. Its a fun deck to play against.

May 6, 2015 10:34 p.m.

klone13 says... #19

I like shard less delver. Also does Trygon Predator see limited play in legacy on SB more specifically?

May 6, 2015 10:34 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #20

OtakulordAndrew That's only if they are playing OmniTell. If they are playing Sneak and Show, then they don't get the extra turn as they aren't actually casting him.

May 6, 2015 10:35 p.m.

EndStepTop says... #21

Emmy triggers on cast not etb. Show and tell puts into play not cast with out paying it's cmc.

May 6, 2015 10:35 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #22

I think trygon is more of a vintage guy. Not sure what you can hit to make it worth

Kolaghan's Command seem worth?

May 6, 2015 10:36 p.m.

klone13 says... #23

Well I know that but could it see fringe SB play?

May 6, 2015 10:37 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #24

But what do you board it against? Affinity? Mud?

May 6, 2015 10:38 p.m.

EndStepTop says... #25

The retardly popular stoneforge mystic decks. Forces miracles to spin top messing with countertop lock. Drops a deuce in mud. Kills vials from dnt/merfolk.

May 6, 2015 10:41 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #26

Perhaps it's time to try it out then?

May 6, 2015 10:47 p.m.

@klone13 eternal garden still sees play as a strong deck but it requires a strong pilot to play it at it's best. In terms of food chain it depends on the variant both bant and bug see play, as a combo deck it is on the slower side and can lose to other combo decks such as show and tell but it does alright against aggro and control decks where it can either get off its combo or go with the back up plan of beating the opponent to the face with 4 Misthollow Griffin. In terms of the combo you have quite a few ways to tutor for your combo with a few transmute card in black to fetch food chain while if your in white you have access to cards like Enlightened Tutor, Manipulate Fate is great for getting your griffins while you also have access to the usual blue cantrips in brainstorm and ponder while m15's Genesis Hydra recently made finding Tidespout Tyrant or emrakul much easier once you have the rest of your combo or if you happen to be missing food chain or your griffin you could try to dig for them with the hydra as well. Other than that the deck tends to run some decent counter spells such as a playset of force which synergises well with your misthollow griffin a few daze if in black abrupt decay and if in white Meddling Mage etc. to hold off untill the deck combos or it swings enough times with its 4cmc 3/3 fliers.

May 6, 2015 10:47 p.m.

Legacy woot! Aaand, I need to read comments and links.

On that note, the format is healthy. Anyone have thoughts on the competiveness of mana Dredge, Affinty, RDW/Burn, and 12 Post in the format?

May 6, 2015 10:47 p.m.

klone13 says... #29

I love RDW in legacy whereas I absolutely hate it in modern. I really love Pyrostatic Pillar and Pyroblast/Red Elemental Blast. Also aeonstoremyliver, I love the addition of Barbarian Ring in your deck.

May 6, 2015 10:50 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #30

Legacy lands has done very well considering the few players that play it. There are like 7 pro players that play it and all do consistently well

May 6, 2015 10:53 p.m.

klone13 says... #31

Is Bug Nic Fit a 'thing'? I like Notion Thief in vintage but I am not sure whether it has a definitive place in legacy.

May 6, 2015 10:56 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #32

I feel like dredge, mana or otherwise, does well or not (assuming a field of competent players) really depends on if the other players decided to respect it and bring sideboard for it. If they did, or if there's a lot of DRS in the room, then I don't think it does well. If they don't, it can easily win a competition as most people find it very hard to interact and interrupt it.

I've never played against Affinity or 12 Post in legacy, but I feel like Burn is kinda slow for a combo deck.

May 6, 2015 10:56 p.m.

EndStepTop says... #33

I've seen it on scg streams. It's not spectacular, but it's a legacy deck that can run grave titan and hardcast it so I love it.

May 6, 2015 10:58 p.m.

klone13 says... #34

Is ten basic lands enough for Nic Fit?

May 6, 2015 10:58 p.m.

@klone13 10 basic lands should be enough for nic fit as some lists run around 7 or 8 basics.

May 6, 2015 11:02 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #36

Klone I play 7 basics in nic-fit

May 6, 2015 11:18 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #37

It... looks like Maverick but Green/Black instead of Green/White. Interesting.

Speaking of oddly named decks, anyone know where the name "tin-fins" came from?

May 6, 2015 11:29 p.m.

i dont think it could. theres a lot of removal in legacy: Lightning Bolt, Swords to Plowshares, Abrupt Decay and less so in vintage. also most of the stuff that trygon hits you would rather just decay. There are exceptions like Omniscience and Batterskull that you cant hit but the problem with those scenarios is 1) 9.5 times out of 10 once omniscience hits the field they cantrip, cantrip, play grizzy, pay 7 draw 7, cantrip cantrip, emrakul, go to extra turn kill u and 2) the decks that play batterskull, (stoneblade, deathblade, D&T, etc.) always play lots of removal as they are essentially midrange

May 6, 2015 11:32 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #39

Speaking of things that can't be abrupt decay'd... has anyone else run into Rug Delver with Hooting Mandrills? Cuz... it's good. Freaking trample.

May 6, 2015 11:34 p.m.

the name "tin-fins" comes from the movie tin-fins which is about a metal shark. during the movie there is a fake commercial for a restaurant called grizzelbees. since tin fins is a griselbrand combo deck they call it tin fins.

May 6, 2015 11:37 p.m.

@klone13 Thanks! Barbarian Ring is often a finishing blow followed by Fireblast. RDW/Burn has a potential T3 win, consistent T4. It's bad matchups are TES/ANT and Show and Tell variants, which it sideboards heavily against ala Pyrostatic Pillar (as well as Eidolon of the Great Revel main) and GY hate, and Ashen Rider for S&T.

12 Post is a blast to play, as it has tons of answers mainboard. It's weak to Wasteland effects, but compensates main and side. Weak against early combo decks, unless the Simic variant packs FoW.

Lands decks intrigue me, and have done well pending the meta. It's a groovy deck I wouldn't mind trying a variant of. Obviously, Blood Moon wrecks it's day, however it's a seldom seen SB card. What are it's good/bad matchups?

I concur that Dredge is a true boogeyman, preying on the unprepared meta. Same could be said of Nic Fit.

Speaking of, I'd love to see the Marlboro Man in further competive action. I like that lists run more basics, making it less of a barrier of entry, and also resilient to Wasteland.

Notion Thief is fun, but may be too slow in Legacy due to the lack of acceleration that Vintage has. W/O the P9 and so forth, it's unjustifiable as a 4 drop, whereas Jace fills the slot better in the format.

No Hooting Mandrills or Tin Fins yet for me, but I look forward to the challenge.

Anyone ever play against Legacy Affinity? Cereally, Rice Crispies, it's nuts. In the hands of a good pilot, it's a badass deck.

May 7, 2015 12:59 a.m.

@ aeonstoremyliver

In case you forgot this happened. This is a Notion Thief turning a Jace, the Mind Sculptor 0 into a Hymn to Tourach from a Brainstorm.

May 7, 2015 7:18 a.m.

Subbing for good reads.

I somewhat recently setup an mtgo account and have been working on building up my Legacy cards. Haven't played a single match with them yet though, been busy as hell. Plus I can't 100% decide on the route I want to take. Part of me really wants to run Mentor but I also kinda don't know how well it'll work out. I dunno.

May 7, 2015 8:08 p.m.

EndStepTop says... #44

In what deck? Mentor gets pretty bonkers in a lot of stuff.

May 7, 2015 8:22 p.m.

@fluffybunnypants Didn't know that existed, hilarious! But was that a niche situation, or has Thief come up in lists since? I suppose it could be a good card at times, but not as a 4x of. I can't really afford to play in Legacy, though, so there's that lol.

May 7, 2015 9:11 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #46

Mentor can be run as a two of in Stoneblade and work well.

May 7, 2015 9:21 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #47

I'm thinking of adding Become Immense to my elves deck as a one main one board for the delver matchup. Thoughts?

May 7, 2015 9:26 p.m.

EndStepTop says... #48

Seems too cute, why not just run ruric for NO? Or splash a taiga to target him.

May 7, 2015 9:39 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #49

Natural Order requires you to not have it thoughtseized out of your hand, as well as to have lands and a board state. None of which is easy to accomplish against sultai delver
