What do you think is the worst nonland card in MTG?Im going with Maze Rusher after 6mana does haste even matter?

Wood Elemental is a popular choice for worst card ever. When you see some of the older cards, you'll see just how actually decent cards like Maze Rusher are.
Also, no way is Flamecast Wheel worse than Razor Boomerang

Wood Elemental probably wins. One with Nothing is in the running though.

I was under the impression he was talking about cards in standard play.

Actually Mudhole have some uses, maybe not the best one, but it's not the Worst card ever.
If you're curious to play with the worst card ever, Ultimate Bravery can actually be fun, trying to find synergy where you tough there would be none.

Leyline Phantom seems extremely limited in its usefulness. hexproof and unblockable it'd start to make more sense

I'm gonna go with Break Open . If you can find a realistic time where you would knowingly want to use that card then you're on top of things.

Alms Beast for me. I mean... I could see some uses with a particular combo but... not worth it to me.

It's in the General forum and he doesn't mention that he's only interested in Standard cards in the original post. But I'm sort of with pookypuppy6 on this, if you think that some card in Standard is the worst nonland card ever, you don't know just how good you got it.

I had to double check this one. Scornful Egotist

Probably Undead Minotaur or Minotaur Abomination
October 4, 2013 11:01 a.m.
Scornful Egotist was amazing when it was legal because you never play it for the casting cost and then it affected so many other spells due to its high casting cost. Now that being said I never thought Wit's End was playable because by the time you have that much mana, your opponent (unless playing control and in which case the likelihood of this resolving is very low) probably won't have a very large hand anyway.

oh yeah this probably the worse card in standard besides Rod of Ruin Vanquish the Foul
October 4, 2013 11:10 a.m.
This: Great Wall . There are only four cards in the history of Magic that have plainswalk.
October 4, 2013 11:35 a.m.
I have to say that brute042 founded some great card, I have a hard time figuring how bad it can be. Most of the other example I would actually see it played in some deck and are far from the worst card ever. Remember that cards are designed in consideration to limited and all the format.

I don't know if it's actually the worst but i'd put in a vote for Force of Nature

@abenz419 definitely not the worse
@Replayced Cancel is nowhere near the worse its at least actually playable and not absolute trash

Any of the Ante cards (Amulet of Quoz , Bronze Tablet , etc.) Not legal in any format, and probably the biggest failure (in terms of card design) wizards has ever done.
Also, I love how you can tell that half the people in this thread have never played Limited, (not that there's anything wrong with that, it's not for everybody). But Alms Beast , Tavern Swindler , Leyline Phantom , Undead Minotaur and Minotaur Abomination are all completely legitimate cards in Limited.
October 4, 2013 12:41 p.m.
Force of Nature was the first ever rare card I got back in my first 5th edition starter deck. I'm sure like any card it has it's uses, but an upkeep of GGGG is brutal, 3 turns of not paying it will kill you before you can deal enough damage to your opponent. Plus limits what else you can play on those turns, especially if you paid it's 6 mana cost right after playing your 6th land.

Phyrexian Devourer 6 for a 1/1? Yeah you can pump him up, but A) you have to exile your own cards and B) it's such a gamble, you'll probably end up losing him if you try and get some value out of it.
October 4, 2013 12:49 p.m.
That is a good point Arachnarchist. Many users commenting seem to be blind to many formats. I've even seen Maze Rusher used during drafts on the pro tour. That's what makes Great Wall such a perfect candidate for this honor. No matter the format, it's just terrible. At least any creature is capable of attacking/blocking. Great Wall does nothing except allow you to block only 4 creatures in the entire history of the game.
October 4, 2013 1:09 p.m.
I still stand by Cancel . "Counter target spell" should not have that grotesque grey circle with a 1 inside of it growing out of it's mana cost. 10 out of 10 control players agree. I'm suprised KrazyCaley didn't say it before me.
October 4, 2013 1:11 p.m.
Most cards that one person considers "bad" or "the worst" can be rather useful, depending on the deck. For example, Tavern Swindler used to be in a coin-flip deck I ran, and was one of my main sources for gaining life consistently.
Still, I will make my contribution to this list. Shelkin Brownie , since we all, inevitably, have lost to creatures with banding.
October 4, 2013 1:12 p.m.
Frankly, Force of Nature can't be the worst card ever... nor can any creature.
Any creature can do SOMETHING. Force of Nature attacks for 8 Trample damage... sure there are "better cards" out there... but there are a LOT of worse cards.
Trait Doctoring gets my vote. It doesn't just do nothing... it does nothing again and again.
In Draft, it was a rare that was always last pick. In standard, it saw exactly 0 decks. - It doesn't remove, bounce, stay on the battlefield, or make any permanent change to board state, and what little the wall of text may have tricked you into thinking it may do falls appart when you notice that one little word. "Sorcery".
In any situation where someone can say "well it can be used for X", there are ultimately many cards that can do the same thing or better. - Most recently, people say "it can help deal with Devotion cards...". Frankly, it's at sorcery speed first, then only after the ciphered creature deals damage... so it helps deal with Gods and Gods only... and only when first cast... and only until the end of your turn. ANY removal that can kill the god is better.
If I were to top deck any card in Magic, I can think of no situation where I would want it to be Trait Doctoring .

Descent into Madness see some play in casual and chaos edh, it's not a bad card...it's close to what The Abyss does.... Some people here should open their mind to other formats..... Great Wall is probably the worst card ever....
October 4, 2013 1:22 p.m.
using your same logic about creatures, no instant/sorcery/interrupt/etc. can be the worst card because they all do something... whether you consider it useful or not it still does something. even Trait Doctoring , it changes the text of a target permanent by replacing the all instances of one color word with another or one basic land type with another until end of turn. Then it does THAT over and over again.
October 4, 2013 1:26 p.m.
Sure, there are better counter spells than Cancel ... that doesn't make it the worst card ever. It just makes it not the first choice.

Trait Doctoring got some use in a color change themed EDH of a friend... It's not super usefull, nor it is a win condition.... But it has been cast....
EDH seems to be able to get a use for even the most obscure cards. When asking what is the worst card ever, you should ask: is it even bad for EDH and casual?
October 4, 2013 1:28 p.m.
The little that Trait Doctoring does is less useful in more situations than any other card I can think of.
ANY creature can attack, or block, or be sacrificed to something, as well as counting as a permanent in play.... generally they can ALWAYS do something. Not so with Trait Doctoring .
October 4, 2013 1:31 p.m.
Apocalypse Chime is generally considered the worst. Though, I think there should have been an errata on it that says, "that by bury we mean get a shovel and put every homelands card in a hole."
I'm still a big fan of Mudhole
for the title of worst card ever.

Using your logic, Doom Blade would be a bad card if there is no creature or only black creature into play...
There is no way Trait Doctoring is as bad as Great Wall ...One is situational, the other is 4/20 000 card situational.....
October 4, 2013 1:42 p.m.
...How is that my logic? - I think you need to read up on the definition and concepts of logic?
Doom Blade
.... no creatures in play? hold onto it, and there likely will be soon.
Trait Doctoring
... no useful targets in play? (what am I saying, of course there isn't!)... hold onto it... and you'll continue to have a dead card in your hand.
Great Wall , granted is up there, but when it does have a useful effect, it will remain in play, and remain useful. The little use you can get out of it is made better by the fact that it remains. - The fact that it remain is play means that it can be sacrificed, count towards Sphere of Safety or Ethereal Armor , or any other such effect.
If I was playing a deck containing one copy of every magic card, I'm sure I would much rather top-deck Great Wall in more situations than I would want to top deck as Trait Doctoring .
