Wizards "You Make the Card"

General forum

Posted on March 11, 2013, 6:22 a.m. by Arachnarchist

Wizards of the coast has announced that they are going to do a fourth "you make the card" feature. For those of you who haven't heard of this, three times in the past wizards has allowed the Magic community to create a card by voting on each aspect of it. The previous three cards created this way were Forgotten Ancient, Crucible of Worlds, and Vanish into Memory. All of the details can be found here:

I thought i should be an enchantment because we already have a creature, instant, and an artifact. thoughts?

March 11, 2013 7:17 a.m.

Schuesseled says... #3

I voted for land.

March 11, 2013 7:40 a.m.

RedCloud2012 says... #4

What does the past matter its what the meta needs currently. weapons...Artifact creatures..maybe a copy creature in a graveyard clone or some good new vampires for aggro or zombies or even something for standard goblins. These are all pretty important types currently out classed in the meta.

KrazyCaley says... #5

I voted instant, because I have this great idea for a new instant. It will cost double blue and it'll read "counter target spell."

March 11, 2013 8:42 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #6

You just want Counterspell back in standard lol.

March 11, 2013 8:45 a.m.

mafteechr says... #7

Voted land.

March 11, 2013 8:49 a.m.

Rayenous says... #8

I went with land... I want to see something like:

Legendary Land

T: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.

When ~ enters the battlefield you may play an additional land this turn. That land enters the battlefield tapped.

(I know this could be abused with 'flicker' effects, but if the additional land enters tapped, it should be mitigated.)

First thought was for a non-basic land of each basic land type that was essentially this:

Miracle: 0

If you play ~ for it's miracle cost, it is a colorless spell and does not count as playing a land this turn.

(This means it can be responded to and/or countered if played for it's Miracle cost, but could be a bit of ramp for any colour, so long as it's the first draw of a turn. However, I don't think they will be reusing Miracle so soon.)

KrazyCaley says... #9

@Ohthenoises - No, no, no, this isn't counterspell. I'm going to call it "Antispell," which makes it a completely new card.

March 11, 2013 9:13 a.m.

Rayenous says... #10

Oops.... to clarify, I meant 5 different non-basic lands, one of each basic land type.... not 1 land with each of the 5 basic land types.

March 11, 2013 9:17 a.m.

Replayced says... #11

I agree with KrazyCaley. You could also take it a step further and add in some more text that reads "exile a blue card from you hand instead of paying the casting cost". I would be fine with either version.

March 11, 2013 10:10 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #12

That's just FoW lol. Either way it can't be printed while Snapcaster Mage is in standard so M14 maybe. They admitted he was a big mistake to print in an article by the guy who created him.

March 11, 2013 10:15 a.m.

Arachnarchist says... #13

I voted land. Just so Caley cant counter it.

March 11, 2013 12:06 p.m.

Absinthman says... #14

Voted land too (before reading other people's votes here) :-)

March 11, 2013 12:23 p.m.

florax says... #15

@ KrazyCaley: Hahaha you seem to love blue as much as I do I'm strongly fighting for a Counterspell in Modern Let's conquer the only format that is not blue dominated ;)Nevertheless, I voted for enchantment since I'd love to see something great like the named three cards on an enchantment.

March 11, 2013 12:23 p.m.

I voted interrupt.

March 11, 2013 12:29 p.m.

Panda213 says... #17

I 2nd or 3rd the UU or alt cost counterspell although I do like the miracle cost lands idea too, you could abuse the hell out of those lands...

March 11, 2013 12:37 p.m.

maiden77 says... #18

lands for the win!! ;-) and maybe...just maybe! if the land is right they will produce a set of lands not just one!!.....that would be cooooooooool...

March 11, 2013 12:44 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #19

@theemptyquiver - Yes! +1! Either that or a Mono Artifact.

March 11, 2013 3:34 p.m.

@KrazyCaley olde tymes.

March 11, 2013 3:48 p.m.

apt142 says... #21

Land and it will read:

Soup Kitchen

Land

UU Tap: Counter Target Spell

"No Soup For You!"

March 11, 2013 3:50 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #22

Voted artifact, but now realizing I wish I voted land... -.-

March 11, 2013 4:33 p.m.

Schuesseled says... #23

Land:

Obnoxious Nexus

Comes into play tapped,

xU: Counter Target Spell unless it's controller pays x.

March 11, 2013 4:52 p.m.

Vulnoth says... #24

I vote for the Soup Kitchen, although it needs to be named "Soup Nazi's Kitchen".

But seriously, I voted Artifact. Pretty much everything Artifact is screwed (Scars cycle was so inferior to Mirrodin I nearly got the blue screen of death in real life), so I'd like to see something decent, creature or non-creature; just not equipment.

March 11, 2013 5:06 p.m.

smash10101 says... #25

@apt142 that's too good,, make it UU Tap, discard a card: counter target spell

March 11, 2013 5:14 p.m.

Arachnarchist says... #26

A cycle of ridiculously powerful spellshaper lands? Each with a separate ability:

UU, T, Discard a card: Counter target spell

R, T, Discard a card: Deal 3 damage to target creature or player

W, T, Discard a card: Exile target creature, it's controller may search his or her library for a basic land card and put it on to the battlefield tapped.

1B, T, Discard a card: Destroy target nonblack creature

1G, T, Discard a card: Search your libary for a basic land card and put it onto the battlefield tapped.

Karkain i liked your comment so much i looked for a 'like' button and realised i was on the wrong site haha

March 11, 2013 5:53 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #28

Arachnarchist That's brilliant.

March 11, 2013 5:56 p.m.

squire1 says... #29

That is true kc, it is new. Counterspell was not n instant originally.

March 11, 2013 6:28 p.m.

RedCloud2012 says... #30

Hey if you play goblin electromancer cancel is UU. I don't get why he isnt played much in control. He is a 2/2 for 2 mana that lowers your cast cost for each one and pays X. How is this not appealing to control. I would like them to drop some protection from U/G or R Artifacts or enchantment. How about a creature that morphs and gains different abilities depending on what color mana you feed him each upkeep. Like a 5 color elemental.

March 11, 2013 6:36 p.m.

smash10101 says... #31

Omnomnom
WUBRG
Creature - Elemental
At BoU pay 1 or sacrifice ~
If W was paid for this cost, ~ gains lifelink until EoT.
If U was paid for this cost, ~ gains flying until EoT.
If B was paid for this cost, ~ gains fear until EoT.
If R was paid for this cost, ~ gains first strike until EoT.
If G was paid for this cost, ~ gains trample until EoT.
5/5

March 11, 2013 8:26 p.m.

JokerWx13 says... #32

what about colorless mana?

March 11, 2013 8:30 p.m.

smash10101 says... #33

if you pay colorless it gets nothing

March 11, 2013 9:16 p.m.

BuLLZ3Y3 says... #34

I voted Instant.

So I can get a spell that reads: UU - Counter target land.

-BuLLZ3Y3

March 11, 2013 9:18 p.m.

MTG_Player says... #35

BuLLZ3Y3 I also voted instant, but that card, sniff... would be beautiful.

March 11, 2013 9:33 p.m.

smash10101 says... #36

Wizards will never, ever, print something preventing you from playing at least one land per turn. Ever. Once it's in play and has a chance to produce mana it's fair game.

March 11, 2013 9:36 p.m.

SirNips says... #37

I'm sorry, the chance to bring back squirrels was just too great. Had to vote creature. :(

Other ideas i would like to see include:

  • An artifact that makes contraptions.
  • An enchantment tinker. ( ie. a sorcery that makes you sac an enchantment to tutor for another)
  • A 4 colour legendary creature.
March 11, 2013 9:46 p.m.

IAmKingTony says... #38

Creature, of course one that can't be countered by or targeted by blue spells or abilities.

March 11, 2013 10:03 p.m.

cklise says... #39

How about a simple color fixing land?

Planar Rift.

Land.

"Planar Rift enters the battlefield tapped.

As Planar Rift enters the battlefield, choose two colors.

Tap: Add one mana of either of the chosen colors to your mana pool."

Boom! Colors fixed forever.

March 11, 2013 10:10 p.m.

Lhurgyof says... #40

Voted land!

It should say:

"All creatures have 'at the beginning of your upkeep, pay (1) or sacrifice this creature.'"

March 11, 2013 10:12 p.m.

AlexOAwesome says... #41

apt142, my friends and I are making a cube in which we make cards, print them, and draft with them. Definitely gonna use the Soup Kitchen idea. (I will specify you as the creator of course.)

March 11, 2013 10:14 p.m.

MTG_Player says... #42

Lhurgoyf i don't know if you are being ironic but that is The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale

March 11, 2013 10:18 p.m.

Lhurgyof says... #43

I was being ironic lol.

Maybe something like the tabernacle, but bounces creatures instead.

March 11, 2013 10:20 p.m.

Vulnoth says... #44

If it were a land that bounces creatures like the Tabernacle, it would be easily abused. That kind of card is nuts. Chances are that this card "we" are creating will be above great, but not insanely good.

March 11, 2013 10:38 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #45

Voted land. My thought was a set of lands like the shocklands but instead call them the boltlands. Tri colored but 3 life to ETB untapped. 3 life is a heavy price to pay for an untapped land but a Tricolored land with the ability to come in untapped would be amazing. I propose that they make them to align with the Alara shards.

March 11, 2013 10:46 p.m.

cklise says... #46

These mana bases are crazy expensive as it is. A 'choose-your-own' dual land at uncommon rarity would be awesome, still, I think.

March 11, 2013 10:54 p.m.

Vulnoth says... #47

Ohthenoises, I actually was think about that a few days ago, lol. And they'd have to be all three basic land types, and I would have a total party with Sundering Titan in my meta with those.

March 11, 2013 10:54 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #48

For example:

March 11, 2013 11:01 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #49

I've also been toying around with the idea of the common bounce lands from RAV (Golgari Rot Farm) and adding the land types and making them uncommon.

March 11, 2013 11:08 p.m.

smash10101 says... #50

wedge should get the next trilands, not shard. We already have the lairs and the shard tap lands. there are no wedge trilands. also, those boltlands are way op.
