Who's in the same boat?

Every day I keep telling myself that I'll go dig out one of my good tri-colored decks to put up on this website, and every day I manage to forget.

Maybe just creating this thread will motivate me to go find it... why don't you guys try it.

Do any of you have the same problem? If yes, tell me a little about your deck.

Mine is a white/green/blue deck with Treva, the Renewer , and it does well in multiplayer scenarios.

There needs to be more casual players commenting, that way people will be less shy/more motivated to post their fun decks.

agree with nammer...although as a casual player, i can say that sometimes speaking up is risky...the GREAT players on here do good job of making a casual guy feel dumb (unintentionally)...i have spoken up about a couple things thinking i knew what i was talking about, only to end up feeling like a newb. i have played since alpha too. all my cards were stolen in college, over 20,000 cards...then i took a break from the game for about 5 to 6 years. its a new universe now...cards are different, rules are different. i was a rule guru, now i have to ask how something works almost daily, but the only way to learn is to ask, right? speak up casuals!!!

It's ok to feel dumb, because as soon as you start feeling smart, that's when you gotta be careful.

And yeah, I just started again not even a year ago after a decade-long hiatus... I'm still learning lol.

In a couple of days I'll be posting a tri-color EDH deck made from a friend's card collection, which is a VERY odd mixture of cards. Should be interesting, to say the least, and I'll definitely want input.

posting a casual deck is quite tedious and really it seems to me that people mainly use this site for advice in tournament play so posting a casual deck is really just one of those things you do if your really bored. go go Oros, the Avenger deck.

nammertime says... #12

No way, I think lots of people post casual decks. The only problem is that the most vocal population is the one that plays tournament decks, seeing as they are the ones that spend the money to get cards immediately, and hang out with current Magic players in their area more frequently.

Also, it seems like nobody wants to comment on casual decks because I feel like people wouldn't know what to say, since the selection of cards is so large, and the factors in building those decks (budget, selection, reason, flavor, playgroup, format, etc.) are too varied.

I, for one, am trying to encourage casual players to speak up and comment, making this site more well-rounded. I usually comment on decks marked 'newb' if they don't look like tournament decks for Standard, haha, though I'll sometimes have a few tidbits for Standard players when I feel like I can really contribute.

Dr. McMeen, by all means, post the deck, and expect at least me to comment (if you link me to it, haha).

...agree with nammertime...there are also players like me who play only casual, but thru making dumb suggestions and getting good feedback from better players, my decks and me got better, and am now thinking of playing in some tourneys, even if only FNM locally. keeping casual players involved will help to grow the entire gaming community, i wont be the only casual guy here to learn some stuff then become a local legend lmao....

@nammertime...went to local shop yesterday and had guy buy some old cards for store credit, he wouldnt let me get booster packs with the credit, but i talked him into 3 pack, opened a primeval titan in front of him and thought he was gonna puke!!! lmao, so funny cuz he kinda got me a little with the credit anyways...then, this regular FNM player that was hanging there playin people (a guy who places top 8 alot) top four every other week or so, this guy challenges me when he seen i had my Feast with me...dude i had the worst draw ever against a mono green deck ramping mana and creatures, he beat me down to 12 and gained up to 48 with Nissa Revane and Bestial Menace , and a bunch of elves... i got out some vampire nighthawks and a gatekeeper then Drana and made a comeback to win 48-0. It really boosted my confidence about goin up to play sometime, i had a HORRIBLE first like five draws, and ended up smashing him! thought id share, Feast grows in power everyday...Death to those who say Vamps are weak!! I say bring it on lmao!

Most of the deck, I've post, which are like 3? since I joined like a month ago are basically casual, and actually on of them is a Vamp deck that's not finished to be honest, I need the Planeswalker and that's about it, but yeah. I'd like to get more feed back on my decks, I stopped playing right before 10th came out, and got back into it about 2 months ago, and so I'm lost on everything basically. Though I mostly play EDH, seems that's what everyone likes at the Shop I go to.

I finally put up my deck, deck:treva,-the-renewer ! I really like it and I hope all of you will too... I'm also glad that I'm not the only one with this problem (forgetfulness/noob-ness).

@PandaBeaarrr, you definately are not the only one. I was a big time player WAYYYYY back in the days of beta, sorry WiseHeart65, I wasn't playing in alpha too. But after having all of my cards, including a set of Black Lotus es get damaged beyond play, I took about 10 years off. I have been back since Shadowmoor and really like "some" of the changes they have made to the game. Sorry, mana burn made you be more responsible with what you were doing. Anyways, while I do go up to my local FNM when I have the chance, and I would love to go beyond that with the right deck, I mostly play casual and love seeing the look on my opponents faces when they see my nasty R/B Elemental deck. I will have to put the deck list on here for everyone to see. The deck centers around Kulrath Knight and Everlasting Torment . Such a nasty, nasty combo, especially with four Ashenmoor Liege s on the board.

@WiseHeart65

Good thing you didn't fold either, 'cause lots of players just quit when they feel like they'll lose.

Also, you lucky bastard, I wish I had that type of luck opening packs!

Hello, I am new to this site only been on it a few days now. I consider myself a old timer as I started 1993-1994 time frame. Legends was the top set at the time. I stopped playing after Urza Block and got back into it for Ravnica then stopped again until M2011. Life happens sometimes.

I play casual Wurms or Casual Spiders. Those would have to be my favorite tribes although they themselves are either Weak or to slow to get out so to speak.

Even though they may be slow, once a deck like that gets going, it's both fun for you and embarrassing for your opponent, haha.

I had one deck, and now I wished I would have kept it together. It was Mono Green Trample, With the Green Enchantress for card drawing. Yavimaya Wurm was a beast in that deck with Blanchwood Armor and a few mana enchantments.

I'm constantly on this site because casual decks and fun ideas are a fantastic way to see how certain card combos work and thru also lead me into thinking about rogue decks that can be used in fnm and even tourney play. So with that in mind, I will always welcome casual decks and of course I will make suggestions but that's all it is. The owner should have the final say in what they play with. :)

Glad I picked up my copies a little over a week ago! I'm glad to see Keranos getting some love in other formats, as he is the best multi-colored god in my opinion.

September 4, 2014 6:07 p.m.

Finance websites have been buzzing about Keranos, God of Storms for a couple weeks now. On top of that investors are buying it out looking to inflate it's price and then resell for profit.

keranos is so good, and if he was a little lower mana cost, he would be stupid expensive.

draw a land, DRAW AGAIN! draw something else, free lightning bolt. pair him up with Thassa and you have some serious fun.

VampireArmy it is becoming very common, sometimes with multiple investors coordinating them. Even big stores like SCG do it.

September 4, 2014 6:53 p.m.

SCG is notorious for doing it.

The only reason he wasn't seeing play in Standard is because Sphinx's Revelation blows it out of the water in terms of raw output. Losing that might make him a big player in the new format's control metagame.

A couple of months ago I was completely regretting my SCG pre-order of 2x foils @ $30/ea. Now it's feeling like a really good move...

Also - it's a good card. I think it'll hold this value or move up in the new standard.

"He won't see play in vintage or legacy mckin. FAR too slow to be effective in those formats."

Er.... as I said previously.... definitely a one of in some Legacy Miracles builds.

Proof.

September 5, 2014 5:38 p.m.

Femme_Fatale, I actually play it in the maindeck of Vintage Welder, as do many other people. Fast mana exists in vintage, in the form of Mana Drain moxen, Black Lotus Tolarian Academy , Mana Crypt , and many others. Some Grixis Control lists play it, I've seen it in a few 4 color control decks, and some Planeswalker controls want it.

Essentially, it's very good in decks that want to play long games.
